LOS ANGELES - Despite a 1-1 tie at the half, the No. 11 UCLA women's soccer team managed to score three second-half goals on Sunday to defeat visiting Cal State Northridge, 4-1 in a non-conference showdown at Drake Stadium.

UCLA (3-1) got on the board in just the 12th minute of the match when Zakiya Bywaters knocked in her second goal of the year one a one-timed shot from close range. The play started when Charney Burk sent a ball over to Dana Wall, who crossed it into the Northridge box. Bywaters, who was running in towards the goal, slid in behind several Northridge defenders to one-time it past goalkeeper Cynthia Jacobo.

The Matadors (2-3) equalized the match in the 44th minute, capitalizing on a Bruin foul about 30 yards away from the UCLA goal. Midfielder Erin Kelly took the long-distance shot, launching a ball that bounded off the underside of the crossbar and into the goal.

Although the two teams were tied 1-1 at the half, the Bruins exploded for three second-half goals, notching what ended up being the game winner just seven minutes after play resumed. Sydney Leroux's team-leading fifth goal of the season came off of a corner kick that was played short. The ball found the feet of Lauren Barnes, who crossed it to the far side of the box where Leroux was waiting to one-time it in.

Kylie Wright and Jenna Richmond then put the game out of reach, scoring in the 77th and 78th minutes, respectively to give the team a 4-1 lead.

UCLA, which owned a 15-0 advantage in corner kicks, out-shot Northridge, 27-5 on the day. The Bruins surrendered just one shot in the second half.

Bruin goalkeeper Chante' Sandiford picked up the win, her third of the year.

UCLA remains at home next week, hosting the UCLA Women's Cup at Drake Stadium. Play begins on Friday with UCSB facing LMU at 4:00 p.m. That match will be followed by UCLA taking on No. 3 Notre Dame at 7:00 p.m.
