STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore Ally Carda had two of the Bruins' five hits at the plate and also struck out three in the circle, but the 12th-ranked Bruins fell 2-0 in their weekend finale against #15 Stanford on Saturday at Smith Family Stadium.
Carda (16-4) allowed two runs, four hits and four walks in six innings, posting a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth. At the plate, junior Jessica Hall and sophomores Gracie Goulder and Stephany LaRosa also added hits for UCLA (25-8, 2-4 Pac-12).
For the third time this weekend, the Cardinal (24-9, 2-4 Pac-12) scored in their first at-bat. Sarah Hassman walked and stole second, and two outs later, Jenna Rich was hit by a pitch. Cassandra Roulund followed with a bloop single to right-center to plate Hassman with the game's first run. Stanford added another run in the second on a solo homer by Kaitlin Schaberg.
UCLA's offense was held in check, as the visitors never got a runner to third and only a pair to second base in its first blanking of the season.
The Bruins play six times next week, starting with a three-game series at Easton Stadium against Washington. Tuesday's doubleheader starts at 4 p.m., followed by a single contest at 12 p.m. on Wednesday.
