UCLA Notes

  • UCLA has now won 21 of the last 28 games played at home in the Rose Bowl.
  • With three field goals in the game (39, 35, 40 yards), Kai Forbath has moved into fourth place on UCLA's career field goal list with 53. He also moved into 10th place on UCLA's career scoring list with his three field goals and two PAT tonight, giving him 216 points for his career (57 PAT, 53 FG).
  • Johnathan Franklin rushed for 119 yards on 23 carries in the game, becoming UCLA's first 100-yard rusher since Chris Markey rushed for 117 yards vs. BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl in 2007.
  • Kevin Craft's 51-yard touchdown pass to Terrence Austin in the fourth quarter was UCLA's longest touchdown since Ben Olson completed a 69-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Breazell on Sept. 29, 2007 at Oregon State. It was also Craft's longest pass completion of his UCLA career.
  • Alterraun Verner had two interceptions in the game and now has 11 in his career.
  • Tony Dye and Jerzy Siewierski each recorded career-highs in tackles with nine and five, respectively.
  • UCLA matched its season-high with 359 yards of total offense
  • UCLA had a season-high six sacks and did not allow any sacks. Akeem Ayers had two of the six sacks to tie his career-high for most in a game.

    Kansas State Notes

  • Kansas State fell to 0-1 against UCLA with the loss and 3-2 against teams from the state of the California...The Cats also fell to 5-2 against teams from the Pac-10, breaking a five-game winning streak... The last loss against a team from the Pac-10 was to Washington in 1991... The Cats have now dropped five non-conference road games in a row, while UCLA has won 19 of its last 23 non-conference games at The Rose Bowl.
  • Junior Josh Cherry connected on a 26-yard field attempt in the first quarter, giving the Wildcats their first points of the evening... It was Cherry's first career field goal after going 0-for-3 in the first two games... The field goal also extended K-State's scoring streak to 155 games, the 10th longest in the nation and the second longest in the Big 12.
  • Junior defensive back Joshua Moore intercepted a Kevin Craft pass in the second quarter, ending the Bruins' third drive of the evening... It was K-State's fourth interception this season - having picked off a pass in all three games - and the first for Moore... Earlier in the drive, Moore earned his second pass break up of the season on a long pass play... The interception was the fifth of Moore's career after he tallied three last season as a sophomore.
  • Kansas State's Brandon Banks returned four kicks for 135 yards, a 33.8-yard return average... He returned kicks of 36, 39 and 40 yards, the latter a Wildcat season long... Last season, Banks topped the century mark in kickoff return yardage on three occasions, including a 167-yard performance against Nebraska.
  • After going 3-and-out on its first possession last week, the Wildcats accumulated 37 yards and three first downs... Conversely, the Cats gave up its longest opening-game scoring drive, allowing UCLA to go 64 yards for a touchdowns, while collecting four first downs.
  • Senior tight end Jeron Mastrud finished the game with two receptions for 20 yards... His 20 yards gives him 1,085 for his career, needing 281 yards to become the all-time receiving yardage by a tight end in school history.
  • In its first possession of the second half, Kansas State drove 80 yards on 14 plays in 7:51, which was capped by a Daniel Thomas seven-yard touchdown run... It was the longest drive this season in terms of yards (previous best: 76 vs. UMass) and time (previous best: 5:48 vs. UMass)... It also marked the first time this season the Cats scored on the opening possession of either half this season.
  • Brice Vignery and Braden Wilson each caught their first career passes against UCLA... Vignery had two grabs for 14 yards, while Wilson caught one pass for four yards... Wilson also carded one rush for two yards on the first rush of his career.
  • Ryan Doerr punted four times for a 43.2-yard average, a new career high... He also dropped one punt inside the 20-yard line, while he boomed one punt 53 yards, also a season best.
  • Saturday-night's attendance at The Rose Bowl was 67,311... It was the largest crowd to see Kansas State in a non-conference road game since 86,439.
