WOODLAND, Calif. -- UCLA freshman attacker Rachel Fattal has captured MPSF/KAP7 Newcomer of the Week acclaim for the week of Apr. 8-14, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) announced Monday. This is the first Newcomer of the Week award for Fattal.
Fattal scored 13 goals in three games to lead the Bruins to a 3-0 week. The true freshman opened by tying her career-high with five goals in a win over No. 11 Loyola Marymount on Friday (Apr. 12). She then scored a career-high six goals, registering half of the team's total, in a win over Cal Baptist in the first game of a double-header on Saturday (Apr. 13). She only played the first half of UCLA's lopsided win over Pomona-Pitzer in the second game on Saturday, tallying two goals on two shots.
She scored on 13-of-16 attempts, scoring on 81.3 percent of her shots in the three games and drew three exclusions. She also recorded four field blocks and registered one assist and one steal in the two and a half games she played.
Fattal is second on the team in scoring with 54 goals on the year (1.93 goals per game), which ranks ninth in the MPSF.
The Bruins (24-4, 3-2 MPSF) return to action this week when they host No. 1 USC (20-1, 4-1) to end the regular season on Friday, April 19 at 5:00 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Center.
