The Bruin football team took the practice field in full gear on Tuesday morning in San Bernardino. Wednesday will be a two-a-day practice with start times of 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Continue to check the website for practice time changes / updates.
Tuesday's practice included short yardage and goal line team drills -- 105 snaps in all, according to Coach Mora. He had the team dump their pads after the goal line session in an effort to assist in the players' recovery. There has been little live hitting in camp and a lot of "thud" in which all players stay on their feet as the defense wraps up the ball carrier. Coach Mora indicated that the spring practices included a lot of hitting as he wanted to set a certain tempo at that point in time. The camp practices have been physical and had tempo, but have not included bringing the ball carrier to the ground.
Meetings and a team activity fill up the rest of the day for the players and coaches. Coach Mora once again stressed how the camp has been a really great experience. The kids and the staff have spent a lot of time together and have had a chance to get to know each other.
If you cannot make it out to San Bernardino to check out the Bruins, make plans to be on campus in Westwood on Saturday, August 18 for a Meet the Bruins Day in Drake Stadium from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Fans will be able to get autographs and photos of the players and coaches, food trucks will be on site and there will be a Kids Zone and more.
UCLA opens the 2012 football season on the road with a game against Rice on August 30 (6:30 p.m. CT/4:30 p.m. PT). The Bruins then return home to the Rose Bowl for three straight games --- Nebraska (Sept. 8, 4:30 p.m.), Houston (Sept. 15, 7:30 p.m.) and Oregon State (Sept. 22, time TBA). For ticket information call 310-UCLA-WIN.
Fans heading to Cal State San Bernardino (5500 University Parkway, San Bernardino, CA 92407) should plan on bringing their own chairs, as there are no bleachers around the practice fields. Parking ($5 daily charge) can be secured at the parking kiosk off the Coyote Drive entrance to the university or at the blue automated kiosks in the lot. Plenty of parking is available in lots (Lot G is closest to field) within a short walk of the practice site located on the east side of the campus.
