REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - The UCLA women's rowing team finished first in each of its four races Sunday, the second day of the Stanford Invitational. UCLA's varsity eight crews raced past Central Florida in the Bruins' first two races of the morning, and the varsity four and novice four boats followed with first-place finishes.
Under sunny skies and fair conditions, UCLA's varsity eight raced past Central Florida by 2.95 seconds. The Bruins led the entire race, posting a time of 6:38.73. Central Florida clocked in at 6:41.68.
UCLA's second varsity eight crew dominated against Central Florida later in the morning. The Bruins finished the race in 6:49.77, as Central Florida registered a time of 7:00.38.
The Bruins' varsity four crew made a late charge to capture a victory against Central Florida. UCLA trailed by nearly one length with 700 meters to go when the Bruins made their big move, rowing past Central Florida for a three-second victory. UCLA finished the race in 7:52.13, while Central Florida crossed the finish line in 7:56.03.
UCLA's novice four cruised past Stanford in both programs' final races of the day. The Bruins registered at time of 8:01.91, while Stanford finished the race in 8:27.83.
The UCLA women's rowing program returns to the water against USC on Saturday, May 3, in the annual dual meet between the crosstown rivals. Five points in the Lexus Gauntlet challenge will be on the line that morning.
