The 22nd/23rd-ranked Bruins continued preparations for the battle on Saturday night against Houston. Running back Johnathan Franklin leads the nation in rushing after putting back-to-back 200-yard plus efforts together against Rice (214) and Nebraska (217). His individual per game rushing average of 215.5 yards per contest would rank 31st in the nation, as a team, out of 119 schools in the NCAA FBS. Franklin became UCLA's third back to rush for at least 200 yards in at least three games, joining Gaston Green (3) and Karim Abdul-Jabbar (3). Abdul-Jabbar rushed for over 200 yards in three straight contests in the 1995 season.
The game against Houston is the first of six remaining home contests in the Rose Bowl for the Bruins, including the next two weekends --- Houston (Sept. 15, 7:30 p.m. on Pac-12 Networks) and Oregon State (Sept. 22, 12:30 p.m. on ABC/ESPN2).
