Caulfield, Smith & Taylor Nab NCAA Regional Marks At UCLA Invite

The men's track and field team tallied eight event wins and picked up three NCAA Regional qualifying marks on Saturday at the UCLA Invitational in the first outdoor meet of the season. John Caulfield, Brandon Smith and Bo Taylor led the way with their regional marks as 10 lifetime-best marks were achieved by members of the men's squad.

Caulfield opened up with a very nice throw of 189-4 in the discus, winning the event. He is just five inches shy of his lifetime-best in just the first meet of the season. Taylor was fourth in the discus with his UCLA-best throw of 175-9 as both achieved regional marks.

Smith won the 200m with a regional and lifetime-best run of 21.30 and was second in the 100m with a lifetime-best 10.65. He also ran the opening leg to UCLA's winning 4x100m relay which finished first in a time of 41.51.

Also posting wins on Saturday were Elijah Wells in the 400m (48.01), Laef Barnes in the 800m (1:51.62, lifetime-best), Spencer Knight in the 1500m (3:55.98) and Taylor Hobson in the high jump (6-8) and long jump (23-9.50, lifetime-best).

Henry Hagenbuch ran a lifetime-best in the 1500m (3:56.29), while Alex Crabill (8:54.21, 3rd), Kyle Shackleton (9:01.26, 5th) and Kent Morikawa (9:03.86, 8th) ran personal-best times in the 2 mile.

Decathlete Matt Reuter ran a lifetime-best 15.58 in the 110m high hurdles and Andreas Drbal thrwe a lifetime-best 173-1 in the javlein.

Up next, the Bruins will send a small group of athletes to the CSUN Invitational next Thursday and Friday.
