Box Score

Los Angeles, Calif. - A late UCLA comeback in regulation went for naught as USC upset the second-ranked Bruins, 3-2, on a golden goal with three seconds left in the first overtime period.

UCLA scored first in the game, grabbing the 1-0 lead late in the first half. Chelsea Cline sent in a pass up the middle to a streaking Zakiya Bywaters in the 42nd minute. With USC goalkeeper Caroline Stanley advancing out of the box, Bywaters pushed a shot past her, and it trickled into the back of the net for her team and Pac-12-leading 13th goal of the season.

USC tied it up at 54:44 on a goal by Haley Boysen. Autumn Altimirano started the play by sending a ball into the box. UCLA goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland came out to grab the ball but was unable to hang onto it, and it trickled off her hands and rolled out to Boysen, who fired a shot into the open net for the equalizer.

The Trojans took a 2-1 lead with 9:59 to play on a goal by Samantha Johnson, who fired far post after a through ball by Elizabeth Eddy.

With the minutes dwindling down, UCLA found a way to equalize and send the game into overtime. At 1;31, Mewis tied the score with a shot in the box after a pass from Jenna Richmond.

The game looked to be headed into a second overtime, but with less than 10 seconds left in the first extra period, USC's Marlee Carrillo sent a long throw-in into the box. Erin Owen put a head on it, and the ball fell right to Jordan Marada, who one-timed it past Rowland for the winning goal.

The loss put UCLA at 15-2-2 on the year and 8-2-1 in Pac-12 play at the end of regular season play. The Bruins will await NCAA Tournament seeding. The NCAA selections will be announced on Monday, Nov. 5 at 1:30pm PT.
