Los Angeles, Calif. - The 10th-ranked UCLA Baseball team fell to Oregon State State in the series finale on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 5-2 decision to the Beavers in front of a crowd of 1,057 at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Sophomore left-hander Grant Watson took the loss for the Bruins to fall to 5-1 on the year. Watson allowed four earned runs on five hits in 3.1 innings pitched, striking out two. Ben Wetzler earned the win for the Beavers, throwing seven innings and allowing one run on five hits. Scott Schultz picked up the save for Oregon State.

Oregon State took the early lead in the top of the first, getting two runs off of Watson. With the bases loaded and one out, Jake Rodriguez singled to right to score Ryan Barnes to give the Beavers a 1-0 edge. Kavin Keyes brought in another run with a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat to bring the lead to 2-0 for Oregon State.

The Beavers tacked on one more in the top of the third, when Michael Conforto scored from third base on a fielder's choice, making the score 3-0 in favor of Oregon State. After Watson was pulled in the top of the fourth, freshman James Kaprielian came in and gave up an RBI single to Andy Peterson to give Oregon State a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the sixth, the Beavers threatened again by loading the bases with two outs, Rodriguez at the plate and junior Zack Weiss pitching. The count went to 3-2, but Weiss won the battle, striking out Rodriguez and ending the threat. UCLA took that momentum into the bottom of the sixth and got on the board when freshman Brett Urabe smacked his first career home run off of Wetzler to cut the lead to 4-1.

After a scoreless seventh, Oregon State got another run across in the top of the eighth, when Michael Conforto singled up the middle off of sophomore David Berg to score Joey Jansen and give the Beavers a 5-1 lead. The Bruins got one back in the bottom half of the inning, when Oregon State first baseman Danny Hayes dropped a pop up from junior Pat Valaika that allowed junior Brian Carroll to score from second, making the score 5-2 Oregon State. UCLA could get no more runs across though and the Beavers went on to take the 5-2 victory.

Sophomore Kevin Kramer led the Bruins at the plate, logging two singles in four at-bats. Carroll went 1-3 with a run scored while sophomore Eric Filia and senior Cody Regis each posted hits in the ballgame.

The Bruins (19-9, 7-5 Pac-12) will continue their homestand against the Hawaii Warriors (7-21) in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. out at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Game Notes: Today's loss by Grant Watson was only the second time in his career that he has lost as a starting pitcher...it was also the first loss that Watson has suffered since May 6, 2012 against Purdue...UCLA's pitchers recorded 11 strikeouts in the game, which matches a season-high in nine-inning games...the Bruins dropped back-to-back Pac-12 series for the first time since Stanford and Oregon State each took two out of three from UCLA in 2012...Pat Valaika extended his streak of consecutive games without an error to 18 straight games...Brett Urabe's home run in the sixth inning was also his first career hit as a Bruin.
