Los Angeles, Calif. - Sixth-ranked UCLA posted its third-highest score of the season in a quad meet at Pauley Pavilion on Sunday, scoring 197.075. The Bruins placed second to third-ranked Michigan (197.550) and defeated California (194.925) and Iowa State (194.650). UCLA earned season-high scores of 49.375 on both vault and bars.

The Bruins had to overcome adversity in Sunday's meet after losing sophomore Olivia Courtney (vault), Vanessa Zamarripa (vault) and Alyssa Pritchett (floor).

UCLA got off to a great start on vault in the first rotation, scoring 49.375 thanks to a career-high-tying 9.9 from Kaelie Baer and a pair of 9.95s from Courtney and Zamarripa. The Bruins' season-best mark gave UCLA a 0.45 lead over Michigan, which scored 48.925 on beam.

The Bruins maintained the lead in the second rotation by scoring 49.375 again on uneven bars. Freshman Danusia Francis set the tone with a career-high leadoff score of 9.875, which was matched by Courtney (season-high) and Lichelle Wong. Monique De La Torre made her return to the lineup a memorable one, earning a perfect 10 from one of the two judges and finishing with a season-high score of 9.925. Zamarripa added a 9.825 to UCLA's counting scores, giving the Bruins a two-event total of 98.75, 0.325 ahead of Michigan, who produced 49.5 on floor with four scores of 9.9.

UCLA scored 49.025 on beam in rotation three, picking up the highest beam mark of the meet. The Bruins counted scores of 9.85 from Francis, 9.825 from Courtney, 9.8 from Baer, and 9.775s from Wong and Sophina DeJesus. Michigan, however, continued to post big numbers, blasting 49.55 on vault, with five scores of 9.9 or higher and a dropped score of 9.875. The Wolverines' vault set pushed them two-tenths of a point ahead of the Bruins, 147.975-147.775.

Michigan saved its best for last, however, scoring 49.575 on bars despite a fall from its leadoff competitor. The Wolverine's last four scored three 9.925s and a 9.95 to secure the victory. The Bruins put up a valiant fight, scoring 49.3 to push themselves over 197 for the third time this year, but it wasn't enough to claim victory. Pritchett led the way with a career-high 9.95 to tie for first on the event. Dana McDonald also set a new career-high with a leadoff mark of 9.875, and Wong scored a season-best 9.8.

Joanna Sampson of Michigan won the all-around with a score of 39.575. Zamarripa and Courtney tied for second with scores of 39.4. Wong placed fourth with a 39.3.

UCLA (9-4) concludes its regular season on Sunday, Mar. 17 in Pauley Pavilion against Arkansas.
