No. 3 UCLA Captures Third at UCI Invitational

IRVINE, Calif. - No. 3 UCLA captured third place at the UC Irvine Invitational on Sunday evening with a 14-7 victory over No. 5 Arizona State. Freshman Rachel Fattal scored a career-high five goals against the Sun Devils. The Bruins jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back. UCLA improved to 16-2 on the year.

Sophomore Alexa Tielmann made it 2-0 with a power play goal with 5:21 to go in the first period. Then Fattal scored back-to-back goals (3:40 and 0:22) to end the first quarter with the Bruins leading 4-0.

Donohoe again opened the scoring in the second period to extend the Bruins' lead to 5-0 with a goal with 6:24 to go. Arizona State exploded for three straight goals to make it 5-3 with 3:42 left. Then Fattal scored back-to-back goals again, her third and fourth of the game. The first was on a power play (3:13) and the second on a penalty shot with 2:15 to go in the second. After a power play goal by ASU, the Bruins took an 8-4 lead into the break when Donohoe completed her hat trick on a 6-on-5 opportunity with 15 seconds left.

The Bruins maintained their four-goal lead throughout the third period with both teams scoring twice. Both of Arizona State's scores were on power plays while the Bruins' were at full strength. Freshman Alexa Tielmann scored at the 5:31 mark of the third and freshman India Forster ended the scoring with 2:44 left to give UCLA a 10-6 advantage.

The Bruins dominated the fourth period, outscoring the Sun Devils 4-1. Donohoe scored her fourth of the game on a power play with 7:06 to go. Then Tielmann scored her second (6:07) and Fattal her fifth (5:06) to put UCLA up 13-6. After a power play goal by ASU's Bella Morrison (1:17), junior Victoria Kent ended the scoring with her first goal with 17 seconds left to give UCLA the 14-7 victory.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sami Hill played the entire game in goal for the Bruins, picking up 10 saves. Redshirt freshman E.B. Keeve was credited with eight stops in the cage for ASU.
