Leading 20-13, California held UCLA scoreless over the game's next 5:56 and opened its margin to 22 points (35-13) before a jump shot from Travis Wear ended the Golden Bears' large scoring run.

California shot at a 58.8 percent clip in the first half, limiting UCLA to a 30.3 field goal percentage before halftime. The Golden Bears also won the rebounding battle by a 41-33 margin and blocked seven shots.

UCLA opened the second half on a 14-4 scoring run, reducing California's lead to 15 points - at 51-36 - with 15:50 to play. The Golden Bears responded with nine consecutive points to regain a 24-point cushion.
