LOS ANGELES - With a month to go before the 2011 WPS Draft, WomensProSoccer.com put out a list of the top defenders available and UCLA's Lauren Barnes ranked No. 2 along with Notre Dame's Lauren Fowlkes.
Barnes, from Upland, Calif., recently completed a stellar four-year career for the Bruins, helping the team reach three NCAA College Cups from 2007-09. She earned third-team NSCAA All-America honors in 2010, helping the Bruin defense surrender less than a goal a game (0.84). Under her direction the defense also posted nine shutouts in 23 matches. In addition to her efforts on the back line, Barnes was also a significant contributor on offense, ranking second on the team in scoring with 16 points (5g, 6a). Barnes was also a first-team All-Pac-10 selection this season.
Assisting in the survey were experts from ESPN.com, SI.com and editors of websites www.AllWhiteKit.com and www.EqualizerSoccer.com among others.
