April 30, 2011

Defensive tackle David Carter became the third UCLA Bruin to be selected in the 2011 NFL draft on Saturday afternoon. Carter was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the 19th pick of the sixth round (184 overall). He joins safety Matt Ware as Bruins on the Cardinal team.

On Friday, outside linebacker Akeem Ayers was selected by the Tennessee Titans with the seventh pick of the second round (No. 39 overall) and free safety Rahim Moore was the 13th pick of the second round (No. 45 overall) by the Denver Broncos.

Carter is the second defensive tackle to be selected in the NFL Draft in as many years. In 2010, Brian Price was a second-round pick by the Tampa bay Buccaneers.

Carter started all 12 games at defensive tackle in 2010. He ranked third on the team with his 3.5 sacks and tied for third with his 5.0 tackles for loss while his 41 tackles ranked first among the defensive linemen and tied for fifth on the team. For his efforts, Carter was the defensive winner of UCLA's Kenneth S. Washington Award for Outstanding Senior and earned a spot in the East-West Shrine Game.

Carter made a career-best eight tackles and forced a fumble against Arizona, six tackles at Washington and five tackles, including 3.0 sacks, versus Washington State.

UCLA was the only current Pac-10 school and one of just nine schools overall to have two or more players among the first 45 selections of the draft.
