WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Lauren Cook was named Pacific-10 Freshman of the Year and was one of seven Bruins honored in the conference awards that were announced on Monday. Senior Kaitlin Sather and sophomore Amanda Gil earned All-Pac-10 first-team honors, while Cook, junior Dicey McGraw and sophomore Lainey Gera received honorable mention accolades. Cook, Bojana Todorovic and Mari Hole (honorable mention) were each named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team.

Cook is the second straight Bruin to earn Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors after Gil received the award last season. Five UCLA newcomers have been named FOY (Annett Buckner, 1991; Kim Krull, 1993; Kristee Porter, 1998).

Sather earned her third All-Pac-10 award after receiving honorable mention accolades as a sophomore (2006) and junior (2007), while Gil picked up her second all-conference nod following her honorable mention award last season. Cook, Gera and McGraw all received their first All-Pac-10 accolades.

The Bruins have had 84 All-Pac-10 selections (55 first-teamers) and 35 All-Freshman Team honorees (23 first-teamers) over the last 23 seasons.

Cook led the Bruins during the regular season in assists per set (10.62), was third with 19 aces and fourth with 2.43 digs per set. She has 14 matches with at least 40 assists and four 50+ assist contests. Cook is second on the squad with 15 double-doubles, with 10 of them coming during Pac-10 play. The freshman became just the fifth Bruin to earn AVCA National Player of the Week honors on Sept. 14, also receiving Pac-10 POW accolades.

Sather has a team-leading 16 double-doubles and is second on the squad with 2.82 kills per set and 3.06 digs per set. During Pac-10 play, the senior paced the Bruins with 3.15 kps. Sather has had a memorable senior season that has seen her become the 12th player in UCLA history to post 1,000 kills and digs, move up to 11th on the Bruins' career kills list and earn her first Pac-10 Player of the Week award on Nov. 2.

Gil is tops on the team in blocks per set (1.55) and hitting percentage (.357), ranking second in the nation in bps. The sophomore has posted 21 matches with at least five blocks, recording a season-best 10 against Oregon on Oct. 23. She added 14 kills against the Ducks for her second career double-double. Gil also has 11 double-figure kills contests and ranks third on the squad with 2.32 kills per set.

Gera holds the position as the top passer on the team, leading the Bruins with 4.80 digs per set. She improved on that total during Pac-10 play, averaging 5.37 dps. The sophomore has 14 matches with at least 20 digs, accomplishing the feat 12 times during conference action. She has 27 double-figure digs contests and has led the Bruins in digs in 26 matches.

McGraw leads the Bruins in kills per set at 3.08 and is fifth with 1.87 digs per set. She is third on the squad with seven double-doubles, recording all but one of them during Pac-10 play. McGraw has 16 double-figure kills matches and nine contests with at least 10 digs. The junior has led the Bruins in kills 12 times this season.

Todorovic is third on the team in digs per set at 2.46, recording 12 double-figure digs contests. Ten of those matches came during Pac-10 play, where she averaged 2.74 dps. Todorovic's season high in digs was 16 against Fordham on Sept. 19. Offensively, she is averaging 1.48 kills per set and has three double-doubles.

Hole is fourth on the squad with 2.09 kills per set. She has come on strong at the end of the regular season, averaging 2.94 kps over her last six matches. Hole has six double-figure kills contests, producing a season-high 13 at Oregon State on Nov. 20.

The Bruins, who earned a #8 national seed for the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, will host the first and second rounds at Pauley Pavilion this weekend. UCLA takes on Long Beach State on Friday at 8 p.m., which will be preceded by a Georgia Tech-Baylor matchup at 5:30 p.m. The first-round winners will face off on Saturday at 7 p.m.
