New York - Following a straight-set victory in the semifinals, former UCLA men's tennis player Marcin Matkowski and his partner Mariusz Fyrstenberg earned a spot in the men's doubles final at the 2011 U.S. Open Championships on Friday at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center.

The sixth-seeded Polish duo advanced to the final with a 6-2, 7-6(4) victory over fifth-seeded Rohan Bopanna (IND) and Aisam-Ul-Haq Quereshi (PAK). Awaiting Matkowski and Fyrstenberg in the finals is ninth-seeded Jurgen Melzer (AUT) and Philipp Petzschner(GER), who downed Italy's Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini on Friday. The doubles final is scheduled for Saturday evening and will follow the Carolina Wozniacki-Serena Williams women's semifinal, which begins at 7:00 p.m. (EST).

It marks the first Grand Slam doubles final for Matkowski, who played at UCLA from 2001-03. He is looking to become the first Bruin player to win a Grand Slam title since Mark Knowles captured the mixed doubles title at Wimbledon in 2009. Knowles is also UCLA's last U.S. Open winner, taking home that title in 2004 with partner Daniel Nestor.
