WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA middle blocker Nana Meriwether has been named the Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 16-22, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Meriwether, a senior from Potomac, Md., led UCLA in kills, attack percentage, blocks and points as the Bruins defeated No. 5 USC to push their record to 21-1 overall, 8-1 in Conference, giving them a share of the Conference's top spot with Stanford at the midway point of league play.
Friday's win marked UCLA's first win over USC since a home sweep of the Women of Troy on Nov. 3, 2000, in Pauley Pavilion. Meriwether tallied 19 kills, 10 blocks, and added two digs marking her 18th double-figure kill performance of the season and her third with double figure blocks. In addition, Meriwether posted a .486 hitting percentage, the 16th time she has hit .400 or better in a match this season.
This is the third weekly honor for Meriwether, her second for the season, and UCLA's 51st Pac-10 Player of the Week all-time.
