Top-Seeded UCLA Opens Up NCAA Tourney Against Boise State
The top-seeded UCLA women's soccer team (17-2-1) hosts NCAA First & Second Round play at Drake Stadium this weekend. The Bruins open up the tournament against WAC Champion Boise State (13-6-4) this Friday at 5:30 p.m. The other first-round match that day features San Diego (12-6-2) against San Diego State (14-3-5) at approximately 8:00 p.m. Friday's winners will meet in the second round on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Bruins Earn Third Straight No. 1 Seed
For the third year in a row, and fourth time in program history, UCLA was awarded one of the four No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. In addition to the last three years, UCLA was also a No. 1 seed back in 2005. Listed below is the Bruins' seeding history in NCAA Tournament play.

UCLA Against the Field
This Friday will mark the first-ever meeting between UCLA and Boise State in women's soccer. Conversely, the Bruins have faced San Diego 20 previoius times, owning a 15-1-4 record. In fact, after losing its first-ever meeting with San Diego back in 1993, UCLA is unbeaten in its last 19 matches against the Toreros. The Bruins are also 4-0 against USD in NCAA Tournament play. UCLA has faced San Diego State nine total times, leading that series 7-1-1. UCLA's record this year against the entire tournament field is 8-2-1.

Bruins Finish 2nd in Pac-10 Race
After winning the Pac-10 title the last six years in a row, UCLA finished runner-up to undefeated Stanford (9-0) in this year's conference standings. The Bruins ended the conference season with an 8-1 record, with their lone loss coming against the Cardinal. The final 2009 Pac-10 standings are listed on page 2.

No. 1 Losses
Both of UCLA's losses this year have come against teams that were ranked No. 1 at the time. The Bruins fell to the nation's preseason No. 1 team, North Carolina, in their season opener. More recently, UCLA lost to current No. 1 Stanford on Oct. 18. Both UNC and Stanford received No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. UCLA is 6-0-1 against the five other top 25 teams it has faced this year.

Cheney Breaks School Record
Senior Lauren Cheney broke the UCLA career record for game-winning goals last Friday, punching in the 27th of her career in the Bruins' 2-1 victory over Washington in Seattle. She surpassed former players Traci Arkenberg and Danesha Adams, who both had 26 during their four-year careers. Cheney is also knocking on the door of two more UCLA career marks, she ranks second all-time in both scoring (159 pts.) and goals (66). With 169 points and 71 goals, Arkenberg ranks No. 1 all-time at UCLA in both categories.

Early Goals
UCLA has set somewhat of a trend of scoring early in matches this season, as the Bruins scored prior to the seven minute mark in eight of 20 matches. The earliest strike this year came against Missouri, with Sydney Leroux punched in a goal just 1:17 into the match. In fact, five of the Bruins' nine sub-seven minute goals have been scored by Leroux.

Cheney, Leroux Tied Atop UCLA Scoring List
Senior Lauren Cheney and sophomore Sydney Leroux are currently tied for first on the team in scoring with 32 points each. Leroux also leads the team in goals (15) and game-winning goals (6). With 64 of UCLA's 156 total points, the Bruin duo has accounted for over 40 percent of the team's scoring this year.

National Statistics
As a team, UCLA ranks fourth nationally in winning percentage (.875) and eighth in goals per game (2.6). Individually, Sydney Leroux ranks ninth in goals per game (0.79) and 19th in points per game (1.68). Goalkeeper Chante' Sandiford ranks 22nd nationally in goals against average (0.59).
