A total of 294 student-athletes earned spots on the Spring Director's Honor Roll, the athletic department announced Thursday. The number equals the sum on the Winter Quarter list and brings the total for the 2011-12 academic year to 864.
A student-athlete must achieve a 3.0 grade point average and pass 12 graded units for the quarter to land a spot on the DHR.
One hundred and twenty-eight student-athletes recorded grade point averages above 3.5 and 24 boasted a 4.0 gpa. Women's rowing boasted the most members for one team, topping the chart with 34, followed by football with 33. Quarterback Kevin Prince and punter Jeff Locke, both seniors, were among the high-profile players representing the football team. Each sported a gpa above 3.5 for the quarter.
Junior men's soccer defender Joe Sofia led the Spring list with a cumulative grade point average of 3.96 in Communication Studies.
"Once again, the UCLA student-athletes continue to raise the bar academically," said Dr. Christina Rivera, Associate Athletic Director for Academic and Student Services. "Considering all the demands on their time, they have continued to excel in the classroom as much as they impress us in competition. Special thanks to our AS2 staff, which works diligently behind the scenes to help them succeed and compete in a tough academic environment."
The total of 864 DHR members eclipses the 2010-11 total by more than five percent.
