SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Junior Alyssa Tiumalu's scoring fly ball in the bottom of the 11th inning plated sophomore Ally Carda, who struck out eight in 7 2/3 innings of relief, as the 10th-ranked Bruins defeated Boise State 5-4 on Saturday at the USD Softball Complex.

Carda (9-1) earned the win in the circle, striking out eight in 7 2/3 innings, giving up an unearned run, six hits and two walks. Junior Jessica Hall started the game and struck out three in 3 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, three hits and five walks. At the plate, the Bruins had five as a team.

The Bruins face San Diego in their second game of the day. Scheduled game time was 4:30 p.m., but will likely be pushed back due to the length of UCLA's first contest. Gametracker will be available at UCLABruins.com, as well as live updates at twitter.com/uclasoftball.

The Broncos (7-10) got on the board in their first at-bat. Holly Bourke led off the game with a walk, and two outs later, Devon Bridges singled to center and Makenna Weir walked to load the bases. Mackenzie Whyte followed with another free pass, forcing home Bourke to make it 1-0 Boise State.

The Bruins (15-2) netted three in their first ups. Back-to-back singles for sophomores Gracie Goulder and Stephany LaRosa and a one-out walk to Hall loaded the bases for Carda, who also drew a free pass to force home Goulder to even the score. Freshman Brittany Moeai followed with a single up the middle to plate LaRosa, and when the throw home got away, Hall scampered in to make it 3-1.

Boise State evened the score in the top of the fourth. Brittany McCray led off with a single to center and was pinch-run for by Madison Foster, who moved to second one out later after a walk to Jordan Kreiger. One out later, Tara Glover blooped a single to right-center to plate Foster to make it 3-2, as Kreiger advanced to third. The Broncos then executed a double steal, as Glover took off for second and Kreiger came home to even things at three.

The Broncos had a great chance in the top of the seventh on back-to-back singles by Sarah Barnes and Bridges to open the inning. After a Weir sacrifice moved both runners over, Carda struck out Whyte and retired McCray on a line out to left to get out of it.

With the international tiebreaker rule in effect for extra innings, McCray was placed on second to start the eighth. After she moved to third on a sacrifice by Kayla Clausen, Ashley Palmer was hit by a pitch and Bourke walked to load the bases. However, Carda induced back-to-back, infield pop ups to third and herself to end the inning. In the bottom half of the eighth with sophomore Tara Mueller pinch-running at second to start, senior B.B. Bates lined back to the pitcher, as Mueller was caught off the bag for the double play.

In the ninth, Barnes started at second and scored on a triple to left-center by Bridges to make it 4-3. One out later with Whyte at the plate, a ball got away to the backstop, but Tiumalu was able to grab it and tag out Bridges to keep another run off the scoreboard. In the Bruins' turn in the ninth, sophomore Kaelin Sprawls began at second, moved to third on a sacrifice by Carda and scored on a wild pitch to even things at four. UCLA would load the bases on a walk to Moeai, a double for sophomore Sam Duran and a free pass to freshman Allexis Bennett, but Goulder struck out to end the ninth.

After neither team scored in the 10th, the Broncos left their 16th and 17th runners of the game, stranding the corners in the top of the 11th. In the bottom of the frame, Carda was placed at second and moved to third on a passed ball. After Moeai walked, Tiumalu sent a fly ball to left which was deep enough to bring in Carda to wrap up the 5-4 victory.
