This is the seventh meeting between Pittsburgh and UCLA with the Bruins leading the series 5-1. Pittsburgh won the last meeting 91-79 on Dec. 28, 1992 at home. The two teams have never met in NCAA Tournament play.

This is UCLA's 41st NCAA Tournament appearance and the third-straight for the Bruins under head coach Ben Howland. Last year the Bruins were a Final Four participant, falling in the championship game to Florida. UCLA has an all-time winning percentage of .736 in the NCAA Tournament with a record of 92-33. UCLA's 92 victories rank second only to Kentucky's 100 wins. The .736 winning percentage also ranks second behind Duke's .752.

UCLA is currently ranked sixth in the ESPN/USA Today poll (as of March 11, 2007) and was seventh in the final Associated Press poll (March 12, 2007). Earlier this year, UCLA spent six weeks (Nov. 27-Jan. 1) ranked first in the AP poll and five weeks (Dec. 4-Jan. 1) atop the Coaches poll. UCLA has spent more time (134 weeks) at number one in the history of the AP poll than any other program.

UCLA Head Coach Ben Howland won his 250th game in the 70-65 home win over 19th-ranked USC on Feb. 7, 2007. Howland, now in his 13th season as a Division I head coach, is averaging 19.8 wins per season with still more games to play in 2006-07. Equally impressive is the fact that he won his 200th victory just last year on Nov. 19 in a 56-37 home win over Delaware State.

The UCLA Bruins sport an impressive 9-1 record against ranked teams in 2006-07. UCLA defeated #20 Kentucky and #19 Georgia Tech in the Maui Invitational and #6 Texas A&M in the John R. Wooden Classic at Honda Center. Then the Bruins posted Pac-10 wins over #13 Washington, #11 Arizona, #9 Oregon, #19 USC, at #19 Arizona and at #13 Washington State. The Bruins only loss to a ranked team was at #16 Oregon, a 68-66 nail-biter on Jan. 6, 2007 in Eugene, Ore.

The UCLA Bruins sport an impressive 15-2 record against teams in the 2007 NCAA Tournament field. UCLA has defeated Brigham Young, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Long Beach State, Texas A&M, Weber State, Indiana, Oregon, Stanford, Arizona (twice), USC (twice) and Washington State (twice). The Bruins' losses were to Oregon and Stanford. UCLA also has a 4-1 record against teams that have advanced to the Sweet 16 (2-0 vs. USC, 1-0 vs. Texas A&M and 1-1 vs. Oregon).

UCLA Head Coach Ben Howland is one of only five coaches in the NCAA to reach the Sweet 16 four times in the last six years. Howland (Pittsburgh in 2002-03 and UCLA in 2006-07) is joined by Roy Williams (Kansas in 2002-03 and North Carolina in 2005 and 2007), Rick Barnes (Texas in 2002-03-04 and 2006) and Jim Calhoun (Connecticut in 2002-03-04-06). Duke's Mike Krzyzewski leads the field with five Sweet 16 appearances (2002-03-04-05-06).

UCLA ...
• Won its second-straight Pacific-10 Conference title in 2007 with a 15-3 record.
• Completed the first true undefeated home season (16-0) since 1974-75 (32 seasons). The 1994-95 squad was 15-0 at home, but it included a forfeit win over California (after the Bruins originally lost the game 100-93).
• Has made 227 three-point field goals, which is second on the season list while the 607 attempts rank second.
• Has registered 247 steals, which is 10th on the UCLA all-time list.
• UCLA averages 33.4 points and shoots .455 from the floor, .339 from three and .594 from the line in the first half of games. In the second half, it averages 38.2 points and is shooting .509 from the floor, .415 from three and .690 from the line.
• Has won 28 or more games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 1974-75 (28-4, John Wooden's last season) and the 1975-76 season (28-3, Gene Bartow's first year).
• The Bruins have advanced to the Sweet 16 for the second straight year, which is actually tied with Florida, Georgetown and Memphis for the longest current most consecutive appearances in the Sweet 16. This is UCLA's 16th Sweet 16 appearance, which ranks fourth all-time.
