Karl Dorrell Signing Day Audio

Offensive lineman Aleksey Lanis, safety Shawn Oatis and cornerback Aaron Ware lead the list of 20 high school seniors who have signed letters-of-intent to play football at UCLA. In addition, quarterback Ben Olson, who will be a second-year freshman in the Fall, has already enrolled in school as part of this recruiting class.

Olson was the consensus No. 1 player in the class of 2002. He redshirted at BYU in 2002 and spent the last two seasons on a Mormon mission. He committed to head coach Karl Dorrell on Dec. 19 and began classes on Jan. 6.

Lanis was named to the Parade All-America team. Lanis, Oatis and Ware were selected to PrepStar's Dream Team. Lanis, Oatis and Ware were all selected to the SuperPrep All-America team.

"This is an outstanding, well-rounded class," said head coach Karl Dorrell. "We addressed several needs, including quarterback, tight end, linebacker and the secondary. This class is very athletic and many of our new Bruins have the ability and versatility to play more than one position.

"I feel this class is full of impact players and I would be surprised if several of them didn't make a significant contribution this season. We played 12 true freshmen this past season and if members of this class are ready to contribute, we will give them the opportunity to do so."

Of the 20 prep seniors, 15 are from California, three from Texas and two from Washington.

Sixteen of the 20 prep seniors, including the three members of the Dream Team, earned All-Region honors from PrepStar, including defensive end/outside linebacker Chinonso Anyanwu, running back Kahlil Bell, linebacker Reggie Carter, tight end Adam Heater, wide receiver/safety Gavin Ketchum, cornerback Robert Kibble, safety/wide receiver Bret Lockett, linebacker Korey Miller, linebacker Kyle Miller, tight end Ryan Moya, tight end Logan Paulsen, quarterback Osaar Rasshan and wide receiver Jamil Turner.

Fifteen of the 20 prep seniors, including the three All-Americans, were SuperPrep All-Region selections, including Anyanwu, Bell, offensive lineman Justin Brown, Carter, Heater, Ketchum, Lockett, Moya, Paulsen, Rasshan, Turner and defensive tackle Jess Ward.

Eleven of the seniors were selected to the Tacoma News-Tribune Western 100, including Carter, Heater, Ketchum, Lanis, Lockett, Moya, Oatis, Paulsen, Rasshan, Turner and Ware.

Twelve of the 15 California seniors were ranked among the Top 100 players in California by Scout.com, including Bell, J. Brown, Carter, Ketchum, Lanis, Lockett, Moya, Oatis, Paulsen, Rasshan, Ward and Ware. Ten of the California signees were ranked among the Top 100 players in California by rivals.com, including Anyanwu, Carter, Ketchum, Lanis, Lockett, Moya, Oatis, Paulsen, Rasshan and Ware.
