Dr. Christina Rivera
Position: Associate Athletic Director - Academic & Student Services
Alma Mater: UC Irvine '96
Dr. Christina Rivera began her tenure at UCLA in September 2007 and serves as the Associate Athletic Director for Academic & Student Services (AS2) and its S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Program - Student-Athletes Understand that Character Creates Educational Self-Sufficiency.

Rivera is responsible for the academic and student support services provided to Bruin student-athletes in 24 varsity sports. Specifically, she leads a program that provides an interactive learning environment that emphasizes life-long learning habits, goal setting, teamwork, leadership and character. Centered on the idea of the self-sufficient, independent learner, the S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Program features academic counseling, tutorial services, academic mentoring, educational assessments, student-athlete orientation, summer school, and other programs aimed at empowering student-athletes to achieve their academic, career and personal goals. She also is responsible for daily interface with the Director of Student-Athlete Counseling and the College Counseling staff that are assigned to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as well as working with the Director of Compliance in the oversight of the academic eligibility certification process.

Rivera joined the Bruins after spending four years as the Associate Director and Eligibility Coordinator for the Student-Athlete Academic Services Office at the University of Southern California. She was responsible for the management of the academic eligibility certification and life skills programs, including supervision of the full-time academic counselors and the short-term and long-term planning, policy development and strategic decision-making in relationship to these areas. Rivera also served as the Academic Counselor to the football, men's basketball, women's soccer and women's volleyball teams.

Prior to her stint at USC, Rivera was an Athletic Academic Counselor for the Student-Athlete Support Services Office at The Ohio State University. With the Buckeyes, she monitored the academic progress of student-athletes for numerous teams, including football, men's volleyball and softball. During her time in Columbus, she was also a lecturer for the School of Physical Activity and Educational Services, as well as for the Athletics Department.

Rivera is an active member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) and is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA). In June 2007, she received the N4A Professional Promise Award presented to a member who has dedicated their energy to the Association and its members. She has also presented at several conferences in regards to factors related to academic achievement and student-athlete retention, as well as the use of technology for reporting and increasing academic accountability in athletics.

Rivera earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Higher Education Administration at Ohio State in August 2004 where her dissertation focused on the identification of key factors student-athletes perceived to be important to the college student-athlete retention process. She also earned her Master's degree in Educational Policy from the University of Pennsylvania and her Bachelor's degree in Social Ecology at the University of California, Irvine where she was a varsity soccer student-athlete.

A native of Southern California, Rivera currently resides in Marina Del Rey with her spouse and is the proud aunt to five future Bruins, Bryce, Gavin, Landon, Ava and Saige.
