LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After 13 innings and four hours and 26 minutes of softball, UAB outlasted UCLA 3-2 on Sunday at Ulmer Stadium to win the Louisville Regional. The Bruins had 16 hits, including five by senior B.B. Bates, three from sophomore Stephany LaRosa and two apiece by sophomore Gracie Goulder and freshman Britney Rodriguez.

Sophomore Ally Carda tossed a career-high 11 1/3 innings and struck out seven, giving up two runs, four hits and four walks. She had 1-2-3 innings in the second through fifth innings, as well as the eighth through 10th frames. Junior Jessica Hall (11-8) allowed a run and three walks in one inning of relief.

Like game one on Sunday, the Blazers (40-17) scored the first run of the second contest. With two outs in the bottom of the first and Heather Pearson on first after reaching on a fielder's choice, Kate Armstrong doubled to left-center to plate her teammate and put UAB on the board.

The Bruins (40-20) provided their own two-out rally in the top of the second. Rodriguez led off with a single to center and moved to third after consecutive sacrifices by Hall and senior Devon Lindvall. Goulder followed with a single off the UAB third baseman's glove to plate Rodriguez and even the score at one.

In the third, the Bruins had three straight hits, but had a runner thrown out at home. Bates singled to center and LaRosa singled to left. Carda followed with a single up the middle, but Bates was thrown out at the plate for the first out of the inning. Strikeouts of freshman Mysha Sataraka and Rodriguez ended the inning.

UCLA had another great chance in the sixth, loading the bases, but had another runner thrown out at the plate. With one out, Lindvall singled to center and Goulder singled up the middle, as Lindvall advanced to third and Goulder moved to second on the throw into the infield. After a walk to freshman Allexis Bennett loaded the bases, Bates lifted a fly ball to shallow left-center for the second out. Lindvall tagged, but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

The Blazers had a great chance to win it in the seventh, but left the winning run at third. Armstrong led off with a single to center and was pinch-run for by Kelly Britt, who moved to second on a wild pitch. A ground out to second by Kristen McGrath moved Britt to third, but Carda fanned Anna Kimbrell for the second out. After a walk to Chandler Orr, who stole second, Hayley Davis popped up to second to send the game into extras.

UCLA broke the 1-1 tie with a run in the top of the 11th. Bennett opened the inning by slapping a ball to third, but it was bobbled by Armstrong to allow a leadoff runner for the Bruins. A single to left by Bates and a 13-pitch walk to LaRosa loaded the bases. UAB got the first out of the inning on a foul out by Carda, but Sataraka followed with a fly ball to center deep enough to plate Bennett to put the Bruins up 2-1.

The Blazers tied things back up in their half of the 11th. With one out, Caitlin Attfield reached on an infield single and Pearson was hit by a pitch. After both runners moved up on a wild pitch, Whitney Fletcher lifted a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Attfield to knot the game at two.

In the 12th, the Blazers had runners at the corners with one out, but a missed squeeze moved the game into the 13th. Kimbrell led off with a walk and moved to second on a grounder to first by Orr. With Hailey Glynn running for Kimbrell, Davis drew a walk, and when the ball got away, Glynn moved to third. Then with Amy Dennis at the plate, she missed on a bunt attempt, as Glynn was halfway down the line, with freshman catcher Brittany Moeai throwing to Sataraka for the out. Dennis flied out to center to end the inning.

UCLA stranded three more runners in the 13th. Bennett singled up the middle and Bates reached on a bunt single. One out later, Carda walked to load the bases. But UAB's Leigh Streetman struck out Sataraka and Rodriguez to end the inning.

UAB won it in its half of the 13th. Attfield walked to open the inning, but was forced at second on a bunt attempt by Pearson. Fletcher followed with a triple to right-center to score Pearson and advance the Blazers to the Super Regionals.
