TUCSON, Ariz. - The 18th-ranked Bruins posted their first mercy-rule win against #22 Arizona since 2005 and their first in Tucson since 1999, as UCLA took this weekend's Pac-12 series with a 9-1, six-inning triumph on Saturday at Hillenbrand Stadium. Sophomore Stephany LaRosa and freshman Mysha Sataraka homered, freshman Allexis Bennett had two hits and sophomore Ally Carda struck out five in the circle.

Carda earned her 20th victory of the season, as UCLA improved to 30-15 overall and 7-11 in Pac-12 play. The sophomore had 1-2-3 innings in the first and third and fanned a batter in every frame but the first. She allowed just one run, five hits and one walk in six innings of work.

After scoring 13 on Friday against the Wildcats, the 22 runs over the last two games are the most scored in back-to-back contests versus Arizona. Seven different Bruins had hits, as they had eight as a team.

The Wildcats (28-19, 5-10) got on the board in the bottom of the second. With one out, Lauren Young walked, moved to second on a bloop single to left off the bat of Brigette Del Ponte and scored on a single up the middle by Mandie Perez to make it 1-0. Arizona still had runners at the corners with one out, but Carda struck out Gabby Sandstedt and induced Alex Lavine into a ground out to second to end the threat.

The Bruins came back with three in the top of the third. Bennett led off with a single just inside the left-field foul line and LaRosa hit her 11th homer of the season to left-center to put the visitors up 2-1. Two outs later, Sataraka drew a walk and freshman Brittany Moeai reached on an infield single to the 5-6 hole to put a pair on base. Senior Devon Lindvall then tapped a comebacker to Shelby Babcock in the circle, but the Arizona hurler threw wide to first, allowing Sataraka to score all the way from second to make it 3-1.

UCLA only had one hit in the fourth, an infield single, but scored three times. Sophomore Gracie Goulder led off with a walk, Bennett beat out a chip shot to short for an infield hit and LaRosa walked to load the bases for senior B.B. Bates, who was hit by a pitch to force home Goulder to make it 4-1. One out later, Sataraka grounded one to short, but Del Ponte's throw to the plate was high, allowing not only Bennett to score, but also LaRosa from second to increase the advantage to 6-1.

The Bruins scored three more times in the sixth. Bates led off the inning with a single up the middle and was pinch-run for by sophomore Kaelin Sprawls, who moved to third on a double to right by Carda. Both then came home on Sataraka's laser home run over the wall in left-center, her fifth of the season, to make it 9-1 UCLA.

The Bruins play four times at Easton Stadium next week, starting with a 3 p.m. tilt against UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday. Gametracker will be available at UCLABruins.com, as well as live updates at twitter.com/uclasoftball.
