Redshirt junior Julian Wruck remains undefeated in the 2013 outdoor season, as he posted a win in the Men's Discus Throw Elite (65.92m/216-3) at UCSD's Triton Invitational Thursday in La Jolla, Calif.
In a field featuring both collegiate and international athletes, Wruck showed once again why he remains the man to beat in the discus throw. While his winning throw was five inches short of his NCAA-leading mark of 66.05m/216-8 (and over a foot shy of his world leading mark 66.32m/217-7), it still measures eight-plus feet further than marks of any his competitors.
Fellow Bruin Matthew Kosecki also joined Wruck in La Jolla, but failed to reach the event finals. He finished 13th overall (56.27m/184-7).
Nebraska's Chad Wright became the nation's second-ranked discus thrower with a second place finish (63.37m/207-11) Thursday, but is still far off Wruck's dominant mark.
Now, the Bruins turn their attention to Saturday, April 27, as they head across town to face USC in their final dual meet of the 2013 season. The m/w hammer throw events of the duals will take place Friday, April 26, at West LA CC, beginning at 2:00 pm. The rest of the men's and women's dual meet events will begin Saturday morning at 11:00 am.
