LOS ANGELES - Sophomore Ally Carda went 3-for-3 with four runs batted in and a two-run homer, senior B.B. Bates and freshman Allexis Bennett each had two hits and freshman Paige McDuffee and junior Jessica Hall combined on the win in the circle, as #16 UCLA defeated UC Santa Barbara 8-3 on Wednesday at Easton Stadium.

The Bruins improve to 31-15 with the win, while the Gauchos fall to 26-20.

McDuffee got the win to move to 6-2 on the year, allowing three runs, six hits and one walk in four innings, and posting a 1-2-3 frame in the first. Hall earned her third save of the year and the ninth of her career (second all-time at UCLA), striking out six in three shutout innings of relief and giving up just two hits and two walks. She struck out the side in the fifth and two more in the seventh, posting a 1-2-3 frame in the sixth.

The Bruins scored in their first at-bat. Sophomore Stephany LaRosa led off with a single to right and Bates walked. After a sacrifice by Carda moved both runners over, freshman Mysha Sataraka drew a walk to load the bases. Hall then skied a deep fly ball to the warning track in left-center for a long out, but LaRosa tagged up and easily scored to put the Bruins on the board.

UCLA added two more in the second. Sophomore Gracie Goulder reached on an error through UCSB pitcher Shelby Wisdom's legs to open the inning and Bennett chopped a perfect slap single to the right side to put a pair on base. After LaRosa grounded out to move both runners over, Bates fisted a ball into center for a single, as Goulder and Bennett raced home to make it 3-0.

The Gauchos tied things up on one swing of the bat in the third. With one out, Jessica Soria beat out an infield single to short and Kathryn Pilpil singled to left, setting up Wisdom, who hit an 0-2 pitch over the right-field fence to even things at three.

The Bruins broke the tie in the fourth. Bates led off with a double to right-center and Carda hit an 0-2 pitch of her own out to straightaway center for her 15th homer of the season to put the home team up 5-3.

UCLA added three more in the fifth. Bennett began the inning with a double to left-center, LaRosa was hit and Bates reached on an error by Pilpil at second to load the bases. Carda followed with a single to right-center to score Bennett and LaRosa to make it 7-3. With freshman Jazmine Sosa running for Carda, Sataraka grounded a ball to short, as the Gauchos went to third to force Bates for the first out. Hall then singled to center, as Sosa scored from second to make it 8-3.
