CORVALLIS, Ore. - The 15th-ranked Bruins scored two times in the first inning thanks to five walks, but Oregon State scored twice in the second and once in the third and held on for a 3-2 victory on Thursday at the OSU Softball Complex. Junior Jessica Hall tossed 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out six.

Hall had 1-2-3 innings in the fourth and fifth, recording two strikeouts apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth frames, limiting the Beavers to one hit and two walks. Sophomore Ally Carda (22-10) started and struck out three in 2 2/3 innings, giving up three runs and five hits.

Offensively, the Bruins (35-18, 8-14 Pac-12) drew eight walks, but had just four hits and left 11 on base.

The Bruins scored twice in their first at-bat without the aid of a hit. With one out, senior B.B. Bates, Carda, freshman Mysha Sataraka and Hall all walked to bring in UCLA's first run. One out later, freshman Brittany Moeai drew a free pass to bring in Carda to make it 2-0.

In the bottom of the second, the Beavers (33-20, 8-14) hit home runs on back-to-back pitches, as Natalie Hampton and Desiree Beltran left the yard to tie the game at two.

The Bruins had a great chance in the third, as Carda and Sataraka each singled to start the inning and Hall drew a walk. But Oregon State pitcher Marina Demore induced senior Devon Lindvall into a grounder to short, as Carda was forced at home. Then Moeai grounded into a double play, pitcher to catcher to first, to end the inning.

The Beavers rallied with two outs in their half of the third to take the lead. With one out, Ashley Sanchez singled up the middle, and one out later, stole second. After Sanchez moved to third on a wild pitch, Hampton singled her in to make it 3-2 Beavers.

UCLA stranded the bases loaded in the fourth. Sophomore Gracie Goulder and freshman Allexis Bennett each singled to open the inning, but remained at second and first two outs later. After Carda was hit by a pitch, Sataraka flied out to right to end the inning.

The Bruins and the Beavers continue their three-game series on Friday at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks. Gametracker will also be available at UCLABruins.com, as well as live updates at twitter.com/uclasoftball.
