Fullerton, Calif. - The eighth-ranked UCLA Baseball team allowed three runs in the first inning and could not recover, falling to fourth-ranked Cal State Fullerton, 5-2, at Goodwin Field on Tuesday night.

David Birosak picked up the win for Cal State Fullerton, pitching 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Freshman Cody Poteet suffered the loss for the Bruins, pitching 3.1 innings and giving up four runs on four hits. Michael Lorenzen earned his 16th save of the year for the Titans with a clean ninth inning.

The Bruins jumped ahead in the top of the first inning, starting when junior Brian Carroll led off with a single to third. After a balk moved Carroll to second, sophomore Kevin Kramer advanced him to third with a single to right. Sophomore Eric Filia then stepped to the plate and reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Carroll to score and giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead.

The Titans responded though, scoring three in the bottom of the first on a three-run homer by Anthony Hutting to take a 3-1 lead. Cal State Fullerton tacked on another run in the bottom of third, as Matt Chapman scored on a RBI groundout by Chad Wallach, making it 4-1 Titans.

Sophomore Chris Keck would get one back for the Bruins in the bottom of the fifth, as he singled down the left field line to bring in sophomore Shane Zeile from second, cutting Cal State Fullerton's lead to two. However, the Titans brought their lead back up to three in the bottom of the seventh when Chapman singled in Richy Pedroza with two outs, giving Cal State Fullerton a 5-2 advantage. The Bruins could not muster any offense for the final two innings and dropped a 5-2 decision to the Titans.

Carroll, Kramer, Filia and juniors Kevin Williams and Pat Valaika all went 1-4, with Carroll scoring a run and Filia recording a RBI. Keck added UCLA's only other hit and knocked in a run as well.
