Men's Tennis Lands Four Players on Pac-12 All-Conference Teams

May 9, 2013

LOS ANGELES - UCLA's Marcos Giron and Adrien Puget were all selected to the Pac-12 All-Conference First-Team on Thursday, giving the Bruins more first-team selections than any other Pac-12 school. In addition, UCLA's Dennis Mkrtchian earned Pac-12 Honorable Mention acclaim, bringing UCLA's total of all-conference selections to four.

Novikov, a sophomore from San Jose, Calif., has played the most matches at the No. 1 position for the Bruins this season (14), owning a 9-5 record. His overall singles record stands at 18-10 and he is ranked No. 27 in the nation. Giron, a sophomore from Thousand Oaks, Calif., leads the team this year in both singles wins (29) and victories over ranked opponents (13). He is currently ranked No. 25 in the nation in singles, playing most of his matches at the No. 2 singles position. Giron earned Pac-12 Honorable Mention accolades as a freshman in 2012. He and Novikov also comprise UCLA's No. 1 doubles team, and the duo ranks No. 42 nationally. They own a 15-7 overall doubles record, including a 9-6 mark at the No. 1 spot.

Puget, a junior from Le Haillan, France, is the team's highest-ranked singles player at No. 22 nationally. He has played most of his matches this year at the No. 3 position, where he has gone 10-2. His overall singles record stands at 21-4 and he is 10-2 against ranked opponents. Puget and teammate Karue Sell are ranked No. 77 nationally in doubles. The two players make up UCLA's No. 2 doubles team, going 16-4 overall and 15-3 in dual matches. Puget was named to the Pac-12 Second-Team as a sophomore in 2012.

Rounding out UCLA's all-conference selections for 2013 is Mkrtchian. The sophomore from Reseda, Calif. is ranked No. 75 nationally in singles, playing primarily at the No. 4 position, although he has played as high as No. 2 in the Bruin lineup. Mkrtchian is tied for second on the team in singles wins with 26.

Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Freshman/Newcomer of the Year and Doubles Team of the Year will not be released until early next week.
