KAZAN, Russia -- Center Lucas Reynolds scored five goals on five shots to lead Team USA to a 19-2 rout of Belgium on July 10 in a Group B Preliminary Round matchup at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia.

The United States received goals from eight different players. Also scoring multiple goals was attacker Paul Reynolds (four goals on four shots), attacker Ryder Roberts (two goals on two shots), center Chancellor Ramirez (two goals on five shots), attacker Jack Fellner (two goals on two shots) and defender Chris Wendt (two goals on five shots). Scoring one goal each for Team USA was defender Anthony Daboub and center Alec Zwaneveld.

Belgium struck first with a goal from Gerry Verschuren at the 6:50 mark of the first period. But then the Americans reeled off 13 unanswered goals en route to the lopsided victory. Paul Reynolds tied it at 1-1 with a power play goal (6:27). Lucas Reynolds gave Team USA a 2-1 lead (4:20) with a strike from two meters off a nice feed from Fellner. He would make it back-to-back goals, scoring on a 6-on-5 opportunity with 3:27 left in the first period (assist Roberts). Paul Reynolds would capitalize with another exclusion goal to make it 4-1 (2:12). Then Ramirez had a nice feed from the perimeter to two meters with Zwaneveld turning and firing for a score to put Team USA up 5-1 (1:21). Fellner then fed Lucas Reynolds at set to complete his hat trick with 0:18 left, ending the first period with Team USA up 6-1.

The Americans dominated the second period, scoring five more goals while pitching a shutout. Chancellor Ramirez scored his first goal of the tournament, firing a cross-cage shot from five meters, as Team USA led 7-1 with 7:03 left in the second quarter. Fellner then took a nice pass from attacker Daniel Lenhart and found the back of the net with a low skip shot to make it 8-1 (6:21). Ryder Roberts then scored a power play goal off a great fake and pass from utility Danny McClintick with 3:30 left in the second period. Wendt made it 10-1 (2:24) with a low nearside skipper after attacker Paul Pickell set him up on a counter attack. Fellner then scored his second goal of the game on a counter attack with 10 seconds left to give Team USA an 11-1 lead at the break.

Ramirez scored his second of the day on a power play goal from five meters off a feed from Roberts, putting the Americans up 12-1 with 7:04 left in the third period. Lucas Reynolds scored his fourth of the game off a nice perimeter assist from Daboub (4:04). Greg Heirman then snapped the United State's scoring streak of 13 straight goals after a turnover, making it 13-2 at the 2:11 mark of the third period. Daboub ended the third period scoring at 14-2, firing a cross-cage shot from outside five meters (1:43).

Paul Reynolds opened the fourth period scoring (6:50) when he completed his hat trick by converting a penalty shot that was drawn by Zwaneveld. Roberts then put his second score on the board with a nice lob shot, making it 16-2 with 5:54 remaining. Lucas Reynolds then capped off his five-goal day, scoring on a power play (4:26) off a great entry pass from McClintick. Wendt picked up his second goal of the game with a crafty off-speed shot to the opposite side of the cage to make it 18-2 with 2:32 to go in the fourth period. Paul Reynolds then scored his fourth goal on the day on a power play (1:34) to end the scoring at 19-2.

USA goalkeeper Garrett Danner played a stellar game in goal and was credited with nine saves. He stopped nine of the 11 shots by Belgium, or 81.8 percent of its shots. Arthur Parmentier played the first half in goal, making only one stop (out of 12 shots, 8.3 percent) for Belgium. Jorden Van Doorn played the second half in the cage for the Belgians, making three saves (on 11 shots, 27.3 percent).

Roberts and Paul Reynolds each won one sprint for Team USA. Paul Reynolds led the squad with two field blocks with Roberts and McClintick leading the team with two assists. Lenhart and Pickell led the Americans with two steals apiece.

Up next for Team USA (2-1-1) is a final pool play game against Pool B leader, Italy (3-0-1), which is coming off its first loss of the tournament, a 13-9 setback today to Montenegro. The game will be at 4:30 a.m. (PT) on July 11 and will not be televised.
