UCLA junior Matt Pinizzotto advanced to the match play draw at the 113th U.S. Amateur Championship Tuesday at The Country Club in Brookline, MA.
Pinizzotto, UCLA’s only entrant in the 2013 championship, posted scores of 73-70—143 (+3) to tie for 38th place, two strokes above the cut of five-over par.
On Monday, Pinizzotto played The Country Club and posted a score of three-over par. In the second round, he played at Charles River CC and rallied on his inward nine to advance to the 64-player bracket.
In Tuesday’s round at Charles River, Pinizzotto played the course in reverse. He was two-over par on his front nine with consecutive bogeys on holes three through five (12-14) before making a birdie at his sixth hole for a score of 37. On his homeward nine, he made birdies at his 11th and 18th holes for a score of 33.
On Wednesday at 10:40 a.m. (ET), Pinizzotto will meet Brandon Matthews, a sophomore at Temple University in the Round of 64.
