The UCLA men's soccer team played its first exhibition match of the 2013 season on Saturday afternoon, earning a 3-0 win over Westmont College at the North Athletic Field on the UCLA campus.
Sophomore transfer Jordan Vale got the scoring started for the Bruins in the 18th minute, finishing a beautiful cross from junior Leo Stolz with a one-time volley to the upper right-hand corner to put UCLA ahead 1-0. Then just before the end of the first half, senior Max Estrada curled a ball to the far corner to make it 2-0 Bruins going into the break.
With five minutes to go in the match, Ryan Lee increased UCLA's lead to three after controlling the ball off of a corner kick, moving past the defender and slotting one past the keeper for a goal.
UCLA will kick off the 2013 season at the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic in Bloomington, Ind. The Bruins, ranked No. 9 in the NSCAA preseason poll, will begin the tournament with a match against 7th-ranked Notre Dame on Friday, Aug. 30 at 3 p.m. PT before taking on top-ranked and defending NCAA champion Indiana on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 12 p.m. PT.
