For the second consecutive game, the No. 3/5-ranked UCLA women's soccer team scored early and often, defeating reigning Big West Tournament champion Cal State Northridge, 3-0, on Sunday evening at Drake Stadium.

Senior Jenna Richmond put UCLA on the board just 2:15 into the contest, taking a clearance from a Cal State Northridge outside the box and firing into the upper right corner from about 25 yards out for her second goal of the short season.

The Bruins scored again at 14:01 when freshman Darian Jenkins recorded her second goal of the year. Sarah Killion started the play by sending a pass to Caprice Dydasco, who chipped it in to Jenkins in the center of the box. Jenkins settled the ball and went top shelf to beat onrushing Matador goalkeeper Rebecca Harper.

Sophomore Taylor Smith joined in on the action at 38:37, taking a pass from Rosie White, splitting the defenders and firing a shot from close range to beat Harper for her first goal of the season. Killion also earned an assist on they play, her second of the game and team-leading third of the year.

The Bruins held the Matadors to just three shots, with the only shot on goal coming in the final seconds. UCLA outshot its opponents, 31-4, over the weekend.

"It was a good game to follow up Friday," said UCLA head coach Amanda Cromwell. "We did some things we talked about in video and training yesterday that we wanted to better on in the attack. We didn't score as many goals as I thought we created chances for. I think we created some very dangerous chances and could have gotten one or two more, but they defended really well and worked really hard, so that made it harder for us. They closed down the space really fast."

UCLA (2-0) will travel to Notre Dame next weekend for the Notre Dame adidas Invitational and will face No. 14 Marquette on Friday, Aug. 30 and No. 10 Notre Dame on Sunday, Sept. 1.
