With tuition, travel and other costs rising steadily every year, the new "8-Clap for 8K" initiative aims to increase the Wooden Athletic Fund's donor base from the current level of 5,313 to 8,000 members and beyond. The name "8-Clap for 8K" signifies that as progress is made, it will be measured by "clapping" for each 1,000 donors who join, leading up to the goal of 8,000 donors, or, a UCLA 8-Clap.
"We hope the '8-Clap for 8K' initiative will build enthusiasm among all UCLA Alumni, fans and friends to support UCLA student-athletes by joining the Wooden Athletic Fund," said Josh Rebholz, Associate Athletic Director for Development. "It is imperative that private support for UCLA Athletics increases in order for us to continue competing at an elite level while providing our student-athletes with the resources to succeed not only in competition but also in the classroom and the community."
To promote the "8-Clap for 8K" initiative, UCLA Athletics will provide the first 15,000 fans who enter the Rose Bowl this Saturday for the UCLA vs. Nevada football game with complimentary UCLA silicone bracelets. There will also be monthly Twitter contests for fans who follow the @WoodenFund and send tweets using #8CLAP. Additionally, new donors to the Wooden Athletic Fund during this initiative may qualify for special prizes and experiences.
All new Wooden Athletic Fund donors through the "8-Clap for 8K" new member initiative will automatically qualify to "Become a Champion," a current Wooden Athletic Fund initiative established to recognize new donors or donors who upgrade their current membership at least one level, where they receive an exclusive adidas UCLA cap. As always, all members of the Wooden Athletic Fund enjoy multiple benefits which may include priority seating and parking for UCLA football and men's basketball games, exclusive invitations for events, recognition, and access to UCLA coaches and student-athletes.
