The 14th-ranked UCLA men's soccer team will make its 2013 Pac-12 Networks debut this weekend, playing host to rivals UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. before taking on San Diego on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m.

Live Coverage — Both matches this weekend will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks. Christian Miles will provide the play-by-play for both matches while Cobi Jones will provide the analysis for the UC Santa Barbara match. Kelly Gray will be the analyst for the San Diego match. Fans can also listen to both matches through a live audio broadcast at uclabruins.com. John Ramey and Erin Cole will have the call live from Drake Stadium. Finally, live stats will be provided for both matches on uclabruins.com.

Friday Doubleheader — Both the UCLA men and women will be in action on Friday, as the two teams will take part in a doubleheader at Drake Stadium. The fifth-ranked women will kick off the evening by playing San Diego State at 4:30 p.m. while the men will take on UC Santa Barbara in the nightcap. Both matches will be televised live by the Pac-12 Networks.

In The Rankings — UCLA came in at No. 7 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll, No. 8 in the College Soccer News poll, No. 14 in the NSCAA poll and No. 23 in the Soccer America poll. UC Santa Barbara is ranked No. 17 in the College Soccer News poll while San Diego is unranked in all polls.

Scouting the Gauchos — The Gauchos enter their matchup with UCLA with a record of 2-1-0 on the season, defeating Northwestern and Illinois-Chicago on the road before falling to Gonzaga at home. Senior forward Goffin Boyoko leads UC Santa Barbara with three goals in as many matches thus far. Fellow senior forward Achille Campion is also a key player for the Gauchos, earning preseason All-Big West honors after scoring six times in seven appearances last season. Junior Austin Mansker looks to be the starter in goal on Friday, starting two of UCSB's three matches and making five saves with a 1.50 GAA. Finally, head coch Tim Vom Steeg is in his 15th season as head coach of the Gauchos and owns a 198-79-30 record.

The Series with UC Santa Barbara — UCLA and UC Santa Barbara have a long storied rivalry dating back to 1967, with UCLA leading the overall series 32-4-3. The two teams met last season at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, where the match ended in a 1-1 draw. The last time the two schools met at Drake Stadium was back in 2011, where the Bruins prevailed, 3-2, behind a hat trick from Chandler Hoffman. The Bruins have never lost to UC Santa Barbara at Drake Stadium, owning a 4-0-1 record against the Gauchos at the venue. UCLA and UC Santa Barbara have also met twice in the NCAA Tournament. The two sides played in the 3rd round of the NCAA tournament in 2009 where the Bruins won, 2-1, at Drake Stadium. Fernando Monge and Ryan Hollingshead each tallied goals for the Bruins in that match with Hollingshead netting the game-winner in the 37th minute. In addition, the Bruins and Gauchos met back in 2006 in the NCAA Championship game in St. Louis, Mo. UC Santa Barbara defeated the Bruins, 2-1, to claim the NCAA title that year.

Scouting the Toreros — San Diego enters this weekend with a record of 1-2-0, splitting its two matches last week. The Toreros fell to Cal State Northridge, 2-1, on Friday before rebounding to defeat Cal State Fullerton, 3-2, in overtime. San Diego previously lost to San Diego State, 5-0, in the season opener. Sophomore Darragh Vieyra leads San Diego with three points on the short season, recording a goal and an assist thus far. Sophomore Keegan Smith and juniors Sergio Lopez and Joey Dei Rossi have accounted for San Diego's other three goals on the year. Senior Michael D'Arrigo has seen the majority of playing time in goal, playing in all three matches while making eight saves with a 1.65 GAA. Additionally, the Toreros' head coach is Seamus McFadden, who is in his 35th year as San Diego's head coach.

The Series with San Diego — The Bruins have a record of 21-6-4 all-time against the Toreros. The two teams met last year in the NCAA second round at Drake Stadium where San Diego defeated UCLA, 5-2. The Bruins last defeated the Toreros in 2011, winning 1-0 down in San Diego on a golden goal by Kelyn Rowe in overtime. UCLA has won three of the last four meetings against the Toreros.

Last Time Out — UCLA dropped its first home match of the season last Thursday, falling to Cal Poly, 3-0. The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the 11th minute from Chase Minter before Mackenzie Pridham made it 2-0 in the 25th minute. Chris Bernardi scored the final goal of the match for Cal Poly in the 84th minute. UCLA went down to 10 men in the 63rd minute, when freshman Michael Amick was handed a straight red card for a foul just outside of the box. Amick will miss the UC Santa Barbara match this Friday but will be available against San Diego on Sunday.

Reed Williams Named to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List — UCLA senior forward Reed Williams has been named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List for the 2013 season. Williams is among 34 players and 13 forwards on the list. The senior from Newport Beach, Calif. was a third-team NSCAA All-Far West selection in 2012 and received first-team All-Pac-12 honors. He played in all 19 of UCLA’s matches last season, finishing tied for the team lead in goals with seven and second on the team in points with 18 (7 g, 4 a). In 2011, Williams scored his only goal of the season in the second overtime of the NCAA quarterfinal match at Louisville, sending UCLA to the College Cup. As a freshman in 2010, he ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 14 points and in goals scored with five. Williams has appeared in all three matches this season, playing 120 minutes and recording four shots. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. The recipients are selected by head coaches of NCAA Division I programs who are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Joe Sofia Selected as a Candidate for Senior CLASS Award — Senior defender Joe Sofia has been named as one of 30 men's soccer candidates for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award. Sofia, a native of Dove Canyon, Calif., has upheld a 3.965 cumulative GPA in communication studies and is on track to graduate after the Fall quarter after just three years and one quarter. He has held the highest GPA among all of UCLA’s student-athletes since the spring of 2012 and has made the Director’s Honor Roll in every one of his quarters at UCLA (nine times in total). Sofia has been very active in the community as well, developing an anti-bullying curriculum with some fellow student-athletes that will be distributed to local middle schools later this fall. On the field, Sofia has played in 65 matches in his four-year career, starting 64 of them. Playing mostly at center back, he’s helped lead UCLA to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, Pac-12 titles in 2011 and 2012, and the 2011 College Cup Semifinals.

Road Warriors — UCLA is unbeaten in their last 20 road and neutral site matches dating back to 2011, going 16-0-4 in that time frame. The Bruins were unbeaten on the road last season, going 8-0-2, and have started off the season with a 1-0-1 record in road and neutral site contests. UCLA's last road or neutral site loss came on September 18, 2011, a 2-1 loss to UC Davis in overtime.

Five Bruins Named To TDS's "100 Players To Watch" List — Seniors Victor Munoz, Reed Williams and Joe Sofia, and juniors Leo Stolz and Aaron Simmons were all named to the Top Drawer Soccer "100 Players to Watch" list. Munoz came in at No. 49 while Williams was ranked No. 51. Stolz came in at No. 69 on the list while Simmons and Sofia were ranked No. 78 and No. 81 respectively.

UCLA Picked To Win Pac-12 — In a polling of the Conference's men's soccer head coaches, UCLA has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the Pac-12 in 2013. The Bruins, searching for their fifth conference title in six years and ninth title overall, received the maximum 25 total points with five first-place votes. In the last five seasons, the Bruins have compiled a 38-5-7 conference mark, the best amongst the Pac-12 teams. UCLA has also won their last 14 Pac-12 road matches and has reached the NCAA Tournament in 30 consecutive seasons, the second-longest active streak in the nation.

Head Coach Jorge Salcedo UCLA head coach Jorge Salcedo is in his 10th season at the helm of the program, posting an all-time record of 119-46-29. He has coached UCLA to eight Pac-12 Titles as an assistant coach or head coach and is a four-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year (co-coach in 2004, winner in 2008, 2011 and 2012). Salcedo has also led UCLA to two College Cup appearances and is the second-longest tenured men's soccer head coach in UCLA's NCAA history.

Defending Drake — The Bruins hold a record of 95-19-15 all-time at Drake Stadium, good for a .795 winning percentage. UCLA began playing its home games full-time at Drake Stadium in 2000.

Bruins on TV — The UCLA men's soccer team will continue to enjoy increased national exposure in 2013 with 12 games schedule to be televised. 11 of those matches will be shown on the Pac-12 Networks, including seven home matches. The Big Ten Network televised UCLA's game at Indiana on Sept. 1 as well. Fans can find out if they get Pac-12 Networks by visiting Pac-12.com or by contacting their television provider.

Coming Up — The Bruins will play two Southern California teams on the road next week, squaring off against UC Irvine on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. before taking on Cal State Northridge on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
