Anthony Daboub scored a hat trick in his first game of the season.
No. 2 UCLA Defeats No. 18 Redlands, 19-2

REDLANDS, Calif. -- The No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team improved to 5-0 on the season with a 19-2 win over No. 18 Redlands today at the Inland Empire Classic. Junior Paul Reynolds, sophomore Anthony Daboub and redshirt freshman Alec Zwaneveld each scored hat tricks in the victory. It was Daboub's first game of the season after missing the first four due to injury.

The Bruins only led 2-1 at the end of the first period. Paul Reynolds scored on a counter attack and junior Chris Fahlsing scored from the front court in the opening period.

UCLA increased its lead to 6-1 by halftime, scoring four goals in the second quarter while pitching a shutout on defense. Freshmen Chancellor Ramirez and Lovre Milos each scored on a counter attack while Zwaneveld notched his first goal at two meters. For Milos and Zwaneveld, it marked the fifth straight game they have scored. Freshman Gordon Marshall also made it five straight games to open the season with a goal, scoring on a power play.

The Bruins surrendered a power play goal in the third period, but put another six on the scoreboard to lead 12-2 through three quarters. Marshall connected on another 6-on-5 opportunity for his second score of the game. The other five goals were all scored on counter attacks. Daboub scored his first of the game while Zwaneveld and Ramirez each put their second in the back of the net for UCLA. The final two counter attack scores of the third period were scored back-to-back by senior Chris Wendt.

UCLA won the fourth quarter 7-0 to post a 19-2 final score. Daboub completed his hat trick with a score from the front court and then another on a nice drive and finish. Milos scored his second of the game on a counter attack. Senior Lucas Reynolds scored his lone goal of the game on a power play to make it five straight games for him with a goal. Paul Reynolds scored on a penalty shot and from the front court to complete his hat trick. The final goal was scored by Zwaneveld from two meters to complete his hat trick.

The Bruins were 3-for-6 on power plays and converted on their only penalty shot while the Bulldogs were 1-for-5 on power plays and 0-for-1 on penalty shots.

Redshirt freshman Garrett Danner started in goal and played the first three quarters, registering six saves. Redshirt junior James Hartshorne played the fourth quarter and wasn't credited with any saves, but did have one assist and one steal.
