BERKELEY, Calif. -- The No. 2 UCLA men's water polo team improved to 8-0 on the season with a 17-4 win over No. 16 Concordia this morning in the first game of the NorCal Invitational. Sophomore Danny McClintick and freshmen Ryder Roberts, Chancellor Ramirez and Jack Fellner each completed hat tricks in the win.

The Bruins got on the board first when McClintick scored on a counter attack at the 5:56 mark of the first period. After Concordia tied it at 1-1 with a power play goal (4:31), senior Lucas Reynolds put the Bruins up 2-1 with a 6-on-5 score with 3:57 to go in the first. The goal extended his scoring streak to eight consecutive games with a goal to open the season. He then scored back-to-back goals to put UCLA up 3-1 with a score from the front court (2:40). McClintick scored his second of the game with a strike from the front court to end the scoring in the opening stanza at 4-1 (:40).

Concordia trimmed the lead to 4-3 by scoring the first two goals of the second period. The Bruins then reeled off five straight goals to pull away from the Eagles. Roberts got things started with a goal from the front court at 4:56. Fellner then scored three straight goals to complete his hat trick. His first goal from the front court put UCLA up 6-3 with 4:01 to go in the second. He then capitalized on two extra man opportunities (2:20 and 1:09) to make it 8-3. McClintick completed his hat trick when he ended the first half with a goal from the front court with just one second remaining to give the Bruins a 9-3 lead at the break.

The Bruins controlled the third period, outscoring Concordia 3-0. Roberts scored his second goal of the game to open the third quarter scoring at 6:14. Junior Paul Reynolds then made it 11-3 with a counter attack strike (3:18). Ramirez then got on the board with a counter attack goal (:24) to end the period with a 12-3 advantage.

Junior Daniel Lenhart's counter attack score with 6:34 left in the game extended the lead to 13-3. Roberts then completed his hat trick with a power play score with 5:05 to go. After a goal by Concordia snapped UCLA's 10 consecutive goal scoring streak to make it 14-4, the Bruins ended the game with three straight power play goals. Ramirez scored the first two to complete his hat trick (3:38 and 2:27). Then redshirt freshman Alec Zwaneveld pushed his consecutive scoring streak to eight games to open the season, with an exlusion goal with 15 seconds remaining to provide the final score of 17-4.

The Bruins were 7-for-14 on power plays while Concordia was 2-for-7. Neither team attempted a penalty shot.

Redshirt freshman Garrett Danner started in goal and played the first half, registering four saves. Redshirt junior James Hartshorne played the second half and was credited with five saves.
