LOS ANGELES -- The No. 1 UCLA men's water polo team improved to 13-0 on the season with a 17-4 win at No. 8 Loyola Marymount (5-6) this afternoon at Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center. Freshman Lovre Milos and senior Chris Wendt each scored hat tricks for UCLA as 10 different Bruins scored.

The Bruins started off slowly, leading 3-2 at the end of the first period. Senior Lucas Reynolds scored on the Bruins' first possession from set (7:31). Cory McGee got the equalizer for LMU at the 5:22 mark of the first. Redshirt junior Cristiano Mirarchi put the Bruins up 2-1 with a power play strike (2:18). Emanuel Di Stasio tied it at 2-2 with a goal from five meters out with 1:58 left in the opening stanza. The Bruins then got a go ahead goal from set by freshman Gordon Marshall with :15 left to end the scoring in the first period.

The Bruins widened the gap in the second quarter, outscoring LMU 4-1. Wendt scored his first of the game on a counter attack with 6:33 to go in the second to make it 4-2. Sophomore Danny McClintick scored from the front court on UCLA's next possession and just like that, the rout was on (5:59). Wendt scored his second of the game on a power play at the 3:22 mark to put UCLA up 6-2. After Di Stasio made it 6-3 by converting a penalty shot, the Bruins entered the break with a 7-3 advantage on a counter attack goal by freshman Ryder Roberts with 1:14 left in the second quarter.

The third quarter was dominated by the Bruins, 7-1. UCLA opened the quarter with six straight goals. Milos got things started with a counter attack goal (7:10) and then scored his second on a shot from the frontcourt (6:14) to push the lead to 9-3. Reynolds converted a penalty shot (5:36) and 22 seconds later, sophomore Anthony Daboub scored on a counter attack to widen the gap to 11-3. Senior Paul Pickell scored on another counter attack (3:58) and Wendt completed his hat trick on a 6-on-5 opportunity (3:04) to make it 13-3. Matt Stipanovich scored a power play goal for the Lions to make it 13-4 (:54). But the Bruins got the final goal of the period just before the buzzer sounded from two meters as Gordon scored his second of the contest.

The Bruins controlled the fourth period, outscoring LMU 3-0. All three goals by the Bruins in the final period were on counter attacks. Junior Chris Fahlsing scored his first of the game to make it 15-4 (4:40) and then Daboub got his second of the game (3:09). Milos ended the scoring with :37 to go to complete his hat trick and end the scoring at 17-4.

Both teams struggled on power plays as the Bruins were 3-for-13 while Loyola Marymount was 1-for-11. Both teams were 1-for-1 on penalty shots.

Redshirt freshman Garrett Danner played the first three quarters in the cage for UCLA and was credited with nine saves while allowing four goals. Redshirt junior James Hartshorne played the fourth period, pitching a shutout while recording five saves. Kirk Wilenius played the first half in goal for LMU and had four saves while surrendering seven goals. Gavyn Wild played the second half in the cage for the Lions and registered five saves while allowing 10 goals for the Lions.

The Bruins return to the pool tonight for an 8:00 p.m. game with No. 11 Princeton. Admission is free.
