LOS ANGELES - Junior Karsta Lowe had 11 kills, sophomore Karly Drolson added 12 digs and senior Kelly Reeves posted 11 digs and six kills, as the 16th-ranked Bruins dropped a three-set decision to #7 Stanford on Wednesday at Pauley Pavilion. Set scores were 25-17, 25-15, 25-16.

The Bruins fall to 9-4 overall and 0-3 in Pac-12 play, while the Cardinal improve to 10-2 and 3-0 in league action.

Redshirt freshman Haley Lawless had seven kills and five digs, while senior Mariana Aquino added five kills. The Bruins hit .123 for the match.

Despite six ties, the Bruins never led in the opening set. The first part of set one was close, with Stanford’s biggest lead being three at 11-8 and 12-9 before both teams got to double figures. With Stanford leading 15-14, the visitors closed out the set on a 10-3 run to take the opener 25-17. Lowe led the Bruins with five kills in the first, while Lawless and Reeves each added three. The Bruins were out-hit .586 to .229.

Stanford jumped out to an early 7-4 lead in set two, but a 5-1 UCLA run gave the visitors its first advantage of the match. Two kills by freshman Claire Felix, two Stanford errors and a Reeves kill put the Bruins up 9-8. The Cardinal came back with a 5-1 run to go back ahead 13-10 and didn’t trail for the rest of the set. With the score 16-13, a 9-2 Cardinal run closed out a 25-15 victory. The Bruins were out-hit .367 to .062.

The Cardinal led wire-to-wire in the third to finish the sweep. Stanford raced out to a 7-3 lead before an Aquino kill and a Lawless ace got the Bruins to within a pair at 7-5. The Cardinal came back with the next four and seven of eight to go ahead 14-6. The closest the Bruins would get the rest of the way was six, as the Cardinal’s largest lead was nine in winning the third 25-16. Lowe led the Bruins with four kills, while Lawless added three. Drolson posted nine digs and Reeves had eight. Stanford out-hit UCLA .268 to .085.

The Bruins host California on Friday at 6 p.m. at Pauley Pavilion. The match will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks. Live stats and audio will also be available at
