The sixth-ranked UCLA men’s golf team stormed back in the final round to capture second place at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate, hosted by Marquette University at the Erin Hills GC.

While Stanford won the event with a 54-hole score of 851 (-13), UCLA mounted a final-day assault on the course record book. The Bruins posted a tournament best score of 279 (-9) and finished eight shots out of the lead at 859 (-5). Southern Methodist and Oklahoma tied for third at 863 (-1), followed by Northwestern in fifth at 866 (+2).

Individually for the Bruins, sophomore Jonathan Garrick broke the Erin Hills course record, carding eight birdies on his way to a seven-under par 65. That score enabled Garrick to vault 30 spots up the leader board into a tie for sixth place at 214 (-2).

Teammate Lorens Chan also set a course record by playing the back nine in 30 strokes. Birdies on 10, 11, 12 and 16 were only outshined by Chan's eagle on the par-4 15th, which played a short 290 yards on Tuesday, allowing the sophomore to drive the green and one-putt. Chan tied for third, improving 11 spots, at 213 (-3) following his round of 68 (-4).

Senior Anton Arboleda tied for 13th place at one-over par 217 following his round of 72 (E) and junior Manav Shah’s 75 (+3) dropped him into a tie for 19th at 218 (+2). Junior Jay Hwang also posted a 75 (+3) and tied for 36th at 224 (+8). Sophomore Aaron Kunitomo, playing as an individual, tied for 42nd at 226 (+10) after carding a final round score of 77 (+5).

Stanford’s Patrick Rodgers captured first place with a 54-hole total of 209 (-7) after posting a 69 (-3) on Tuesday.
