EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Kelly Reeves had a double-double with a team-best 14 kills and 18 digs, junior Megan Moenoa was just shy of one with 29 assists and nine digs and junior Karsta Lowe added 12 kills, but the 23rd-ranked Bruins dropped a four-set decision at #22 Oregon on Friday at Matthew Knight Arena. Set scores were 25-17, 21-25, 17-25, 23-25.

Redshirt freshman Haley Lawless had a career-high 10 kills and sophomore Karly Drolson added 13 digs. Junior Zoë Nightingale posted five kills and five blocks, freshman Claire Felix had five kills and senior Mariana Aquino recorded four kills and five blocks. The Bruins hit .203 for the match.

The Ducks (10-5, 3-2 Pac-12) held slim leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the opening set, but the Bruins (9-6, 0-4) scored the next three on a Lowe kill, an Aquino/Lowe combo block and an Oregon attack error to go ahead 4-2. Despite a tie at four, UCLA didn’t trail for the rest of the set. A 9-2 Bruin run put the visitors up 13-6. The first 3-0 run came on kills by Aquino and Lawless and an Aquino/Felix combo block. The second 3-0 run consisted of Aquino and Reeves kills and an Oregon attack error. The final 3-0 run was posted on kills from Reeves and Felix and an Aquino ace to make it a seven-point lead.

UCLA’s biggest lead of the set was 12 at 22-10. With the score 18-10, back-to-back Lawless kills, an Oregon attack error and a combo block by Aquino and Moenoa put the Bruins up by a dozen. The closest the Ducks would get the rest of the way was seven, as the Bruins won the opener 25-17. Lawless and Reeves each had five kills in the first, while Aquino added three blocks and two kills. Drolson had six digs, as the Bruins hit .200 and held the Ducks to a .000 clip.

UCLA led early in set two, grabbing as much as a four-point lead at 10-6, but a 5-1 Oregon run evened things at 11. The Bruins came back with three of four on a Lowe kill, an Oregon attack error and an Aquino/Lowe combo block to go ahead 14-12, but a 5-0 Oregon run gave the home squad a 17-14 edge. The Bruins countered with three in a row on a Felix kill, an Aquino/Felix combo block and an ace from sophomore Maddy Klineman to even things at 17.

A 3-1 Duck run put them up again by a pair, but kills from Felix, Lowe and Nightingale gave the Bruins a 21-20 edge. However, in a set of runs, the last came from Oregon, which netted the last five to take the second 25-21. Lowe led the Bruins with five kills, while Felix added three. Reeves had six digs and Drolson posted five, as the Bruins were out-hit .140 to .111.

The Bruins scored four of the first five points of set three on kills by Klineman, Nightingale and Lowe and an Oregon attack error, but the Ducks responded with an 8-2 run to go ahead 9-6. UCLA would not get to within two points of the lead for the rest of the set. At 19-14, Oregon went on a 6-3 run to close out the third with a 25-17 victory. Reeves had four kills in the third, as the Bruins were out-hit .542 to .233.

The Bruins’ biggest lead in set four was four, while the Ducks’ largest margin was a pair. Trailing 4-3, UCLA went on a 7-2 run to go ahead 10-6. With the Bruins still up by three at 14-11, the Ducks went on a 4-1 run to even the score at 15. UCLA still maintained its edge, leading by a pair at 23-21, but Oregon scored the last four points to take the fourth 25-23 and win the match. Reeves had four kills and seven digs in the fourth, Lawless added four kills and Lowe posted three. The Bruins were out-hit .302 to .289.
