STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Karsta Lowe led all players with 22 kills, her third straight match with over 20, and added a personal-high 14 digs for her second career double-double, but the Bruins fell in four sets on Friday at #6 Stanford. Set scores were 26-28, 19-25, 25-22, 11-25.

Senior Kelly Reeves also had a double-double, her seventh of the season, with 14 kills and 11 digs, while junior Megan Moenoa was a dig shy of one with 52 assists and nine digs. Sophomore Maddy Klineman recorded her third straight contest with double figures in kills with 13. Senior Mariana Aquino posted six kills, sophomore Karly Drolson tallied 20 digs and sophomore Rachel Inouye added a career-high 12 digs. The Bruins (12-9, 3-8 Pac-12) hit .175.

Stanford (16-5, 9-3) held early two-point leads at 3-1 and 4-2, but a 5-2 UCLA run on kills by Moenoa, Reeves, Lowe and Aquino and a Cardinal attack error gave the Bruins their first advantage at 7-6. With UCLA up 9-7, Stanford went on a 4-1 run to re-take the lead at 11-10. The Cardinal still led 14-13 before the Bruins went on a 5-0 run to go up by four. Two kills apiece by Aquino and Reeves and a Drolson ace put UCLA ahead 18-14.

UCLA still held a three-point advantage at 23-20 when Stanford scored four straight to earn its first set point. A Lowe kill and a Cardinal attack error made it 25-24 to give the Bruins their first set point. After a Stanford sideout, a Reeves kill earned UCLA a second set point at 26-25, but the Cardinal scored the last three points to win the opener 28-26. Lowe had seven kills and five digs in the first, Reeves added four kills and Aquino and Klineman recorded three kills apiece. Drolson posted six digs, as the Bruins were out-hit .283 to .204.

UCLA held an early 3-0 lead in set two, but Stanford came back with the next three. The Bruins forged ahead again at 7-4, but another 3-0 Stanford run equaled things at seven. Even at eight, back-to-back Lowe kills put UCLA on top 10-8, but a 5-1 Stanford run gave the home team a 13-11 edge. The Cardinal would not trail for the rest of the set.

The Bruins got to within one three more times, but could not equal the score. Down 15-14, Stanford scored four straight and nine of 11 to take a 24-16 advantage. A couple of Reeves kills and an Aquino/Lowe combo block staved off three of the Cardinal’s set points, but Stanford would take the second 25-19. Reeves paced the Bruins with five kills, Lowe added four kills, four digs and three blocks and Drolson posted seven digs, as the Bruins were out-hit .256 to .171.

Even at four at the start of set three, the Bruins scored four in a row on a Lowe kill, a combo block by Moenoa and junior Zoë Nightingale and back-to-back Klineman kills to put the visitors up 8-4. Stanford would get to within one on a couple of occasions, but UCLA would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the set. At 12-11, the Bruins scored six of eight to go ahead by a set-best five at 18-13. Klineman had three kills during the run, Lowe added two and Reeves posted one.

Stanford closed to within a pair at 21-19, but the Bruins successfully sided out for the rest of the set, as a Cardinal service error wrapped up a 25-22 victory. Lowe had eight kills in the third, while Klineman added seven. Reeves posted three kills, as the Bruins were still out-hit .310 to .302.

The Cardinal led wire-to-wire in set four to finish off the victory. With UCLA down 7-3, kills from Nightingale and Reeves and a Stanford attack error got the visitors to within one at 7-6, but the Cardinal responded with a 7-0 run to break it open at 14-6. Stanford would maintain at least a seven-point advantage the rest of the way and won the fourth 25-11. Lowe had three kills to lead the Bruins, who were out-hit .400 to .023.

The Bruins conclude their Bay Area trip at #22 California on Sunday at 3 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks.
