PHILADELPHIA – UCLA senior linebacker Anthony Barr was named a Chuck Bednarik Award finalist, the Maxwell Football Club and ESPN announced Monday. The award is given to the top defensive player in college football.
Barr has started all 11 games at linebacker for the No. 22 ranked Bruins. He has totaled 57 tackles and leads the team with 17 tackles for loss and eight sacks. Barr has registered 38.5 tackles for loss over the last two seasons.
A Lombardi finalist as well, Barr will attend the Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The Home Depot College Football Awards, now in its 23rd year, will once again air on ESPN, Thursday, Dec. 12, at 7p.m. ET, highlighting the achievements of college football student-athletes in 2013.
Twenty-three players were selected as finalists today for the nine National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) awards given annually during the show. ESPNU will feature the below nominees during The Home Depot College Football Awards Nomination Special on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
