Texas Invitational Live Results

AUSTIN, Texas - Freshman Linnea Mack set a new school record in the 100 Backstroke and was joined in the UCLA Top 8 by freshman Madison White in the same event, while the 200 Medley Relay squad also broke the UCLA standard during day two of the Texas Invitational.

The evening session began with a bang, as Mack, junior Jessica Khojasteh and seniors Ting Quah and Kathryn Murphy swam a 1:38.79 (4th overall) to set a new school record. The time broke the previous mark of 1:38.85, set by Murphy and fellow senior Anna Senko, and former Bruins Allison Gargalikis and Yasi Jahanshahi at the 2012 NCAA Championships. Murphy capped off Friday's swim with a swift 22.10 on the anchor Freestyle leg.

All three Bruins qualified for the evening finals of the 400 Individual Medley and set NCAA 'B' qualifying times. Junior Noelle Tarazona was 10th in the morning preliminaries with a 4:18.87, setting an NCAA 'B' qualifying time and making the B Final. Senior Lauren Baker also made the B Final (4:20.63, 14th), while sophomore Arlyn Upshaw advanced to the C Final (4:22.05, 18th).

All three Bruins went faster in the evening to set NCAA 'B' marks. Tarazona was 10th overall (4:13.74), Baker 12th (4:18.24) and Upshaw had a career-best 4:18.98 to finish 18th.

Five Bruins reached the evening session in the 200 Freestyle. The best time in the morning came from Quah, who set an NCAA 'B' time with a 1:47.93 (16th, B Final). Murphy (1:48.96, 22nd), and juniors Ally Loper (1:49.09, 23rd) and Monica Dornick (1:49.10, 24th) made the C Final and sophomore Katy Campbell (1:49.97, 29th) reached the D Final.

In the finals, Quah won the B race with a 1:45.99 (9th overall), which improved her NCAA 'B' time. Murphy took first in the C Final with a career-best 1:47.81 (17th), setting an NCAA 'B' time. Dornick had a 1:48.28 to finish 20th, Loper placed 21st with a 1:48.45 and Campbell finished 26th with a career-best 1:48.70.

In the 100 Breaststroke, both Bruins improved their times from the morning to the evening. Khojasteh went from 1:03.21 to 1:02.88, going 16th overall in both races. Junior Taylor Carlson went from 24th (1:03.87) to 20th (1:03.81).

The Bruins saved their best swim for last, as Mack broke the school record, White also reached the UCLA Top 8 and sophomore Katie Kinnear set a career best in the 100 Back. All three swimmers set NCAA 'B' times. Mack and White tied for fifth in the prelims with a 54.04 to qualify for the A Final, while Kinnear made the B Final with a 54.58 (12th).

In the evening, Mack was third overall with a time of 52.59 to surpass Madeleine Stanton's mark of 53.01, which was set in 2009. White entered the Bruin history books with a 53.43 to go into fourth place at UCLA and fourth overall in that race, while Kinnear set a career-best with a 54.26 to place 14th overall. Senior Jesse Bergman made the C Final and was 24th (56.26) after going 55.34 in the prelims.

The meet closes on Saturday, with the 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast and 200 Fly in the morning preliminaries. The evening session starts with the 1650 Free, followed by the four individual finals and culminating with the 400 Free Relay.
