Release:  12/12/2013
Three-time All-American defender Abby Dahlkemper has been selected as a finalist for the 2013 Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy, awarded annually to the nation's top soccer player.

Dahlkemper, a junior from Menlo Park, Calif., led UCLA to its first-ever NCAA Championship this season. The central defender keyed a Bruin defense that ranked No. 1 in the nation in team goals against average (0.30) and shut out 18 opponents, including five of six in the NCAA Tournament. The Bruin defense allowed just eight goals all season and one in postseason play. Dahlkemper earned first-team NSCAA All-America honors for the second-straight year and first-team All-Pac-12 acclaim for the third consecutive season. Additionally, she received Capital One Academic All-District second-team and Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention honors.

A 24-game starter, Dahlkemper finished the year ranked second on the team behind only goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland in minutes played with 2,194, and she totaled one goal and two assists.

Dahlkemper is the first defender to be named a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy in 10 years. The last, North Carolina's Cat Reddick, won the award in 2003. Dahlkemper joins Lauren Cheney (2009 and 2007) and Christina DiMartino (2008) as UCLA's only MAC Hermann Trophy finalists since the MAC Award and Hermann Trophy were combined in 2002.

On the men's side UCLA junior midfielder Leo Stolz was named a finalist, making UCLA the only school with a finalist on both the men’s and the women’s sides. UCLA is the first school since Notre Dame in 2006 (Kerri Hanks, Joseph Lapira) to have a men's and women's finalist the same year.
