LOS ANGELES - Jordan Adams led a group of five double-figure scorers with 18 points as UCLA downed Prairie View A&M, 95-71, in Pauley Pavilion on Saturday evening.

Norman Powell and Kyle Anderson each scored 13 points in the Bruins’ victory, which came one day after the team concluded its fall quarter final exams.

Prairie View A&M (2-8) received a game-high 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting from Scott Montrael.

The Bruins opened the game with an 11-2 cushion and never looked back, picking up a pair of steals on the Panthers’ first two possessions to secure an early 4-0 advantage.

UCLA closed the first half with a 9-2 scoring run that put the Bruins ahead of Prairie View A&M, 50-24, at halftime. The Bruins shot at a 58 percent clip in the first half, holding the visiting Panthers to just 36 percent shooting from the field.

Prairie View A&M tried to keep the game close by shooting 3-point baskets, but connected on one of 11 attempts in the first half, while the Bruins made four of 10 long-range shots.

UCLA led 17-11 with 12:29 to play before halftime and turned up the pressure to open a 24-9 scoring run that produced a 41-20 lead with 3:11 remaining in the opening half.

Prairie View A&M’s Louis Munks contributed 13 points as the Panthers outscored UCLA in the second half by two points (47-45), thanks in part to an early 18-5 run. UCLA’s lead was never in immediate danger.

Travis Wear made his first start of the season, finishing with 10 points, three rebounds and two blocks. Wear missed UCLA’s first three games while recovering from appendicitis and had come off the bench for the Bruins in their previous six contests.

Zach LaVine came off the bench for UCLA and registered 10 points, while classmate Bryce Alford finished with nine points, a game-best six assists and just one turnover. Alford pushed his season assist to turnover ratio to 3.4 to 1.

UCLA will travel to New York City on Tuesday, in preparation for a key non-conference showdown against Duke at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, Dec. 19. Game time is 4:30 p.m. The contest will be nationally televised by ESPN.
