LOS ANGELES - UCLA women’s tennis player Robin Anderson staked her claim as the player to beat in college tennis this season, as the junior begins the season ranked No. 1 in both singles and doubles in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rankings released on Thursday.

Anderson, from Matawan, N.J., is coming off a fall season in which she posted an 8-2 overall singles record and an 8-0 mark in doubles play with partner Jennifer Brady. Anderson competed in only two fall tournaments, reaching singles finals at both the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in October and the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiates in November. She and Brady advanced through qualifying and eventually claimed the main draw title at Riviera.

Prior to this year Anderson’s previous high singles ranking was No. 2 (achieved in February of 2013). Her career-high doubles ranking coming into the year was No. 4 (January of 2013).

Also ranked in singles for UCLA to start the season are Chanelle Van Nguyen (#9), Brady (#24) and Kyle McPhillips (#T-36). Brady is also ranked in doubles with Catherine Harrison, as the duo checks in at No. 11 after winning the title at the USTA/ITA Indoor Intercollegiates.

As a team, UCLA begins the year tied for No. 5 with cross-town rival USC.
