Bruins Finish Second after 8-4 Loss to Cardinal
By: UCLA Athletics

UCLA's Rachel Fattal scored twice in an 8-4 loss to No. 2 Stanford Sunday in the championship game of the Stanford Invitational at Avery Stadium in Palo Alto.

Becca Dorst and Kodi Hill also scored second half goals, as the third-ranked Bruins finished the four-game tournament with a 3-1 record. UCLA suffered its first loss in 12 games, while Stanford improved to 4-0.

The Cardinal never trailed, taking a 1-0 lead in the first quarter and padding it to 2-0 before Fattal socred the first of her two second quarter goals at the 4:32 mark. Her second goal with 15 seconds remaining until halftime narrowed Stanford's lead to 3-2.

A pair of quick goals within the first three minutes of the second quarter gave the Cardinal a 5-2 lead, and another at the two-minute mark produced a four-point lead for the hosts.

The Bruins scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter -- both on power plays -- one at 3:25 by junior Becca Dorst and the other at 2:13 by sophomore Kodi Hill.

Earlier in the day, the Bruins defeated San Jose State 14-6 to advance to the championship match. In that game, senior Victoria Kent and junior Danielle Ferraro scored three times.

The Bruins jumped out to a 4-1 first quarter lead on two goals by junior Emily Donohoe and one each by Dorst and freshman Mackenzie Barr.

They scored four more in the second period -- and held the Spartans to one -- as Fattal scored twice, followed by one goal each from Ferraro and Kent.

In the second half, Kent and Ferraro each scored twice more and Dorst and Ronimus scored once each. Backup goalkeeper Alex Musselman played the fourth period and made two saves.
